I just gave some to Defenders of Wildlife for the anti-Palin ad. I am going to go broke(LOL), but it is a worthy cause.

that this is still an issue in this country... I can barely hold back the tears as I think of my mother and sisters not being given equal treatment.
How could someone be so backwards minded to vote against equal pay....?

14. Not taking away for the issue of women not getting equal pay. |
|
but with the taking away of the unions, there may be unequal pay to workers in general based on different criteria.
Years ago I went to work in a garment factory in NYC. It was the first time I had worked in a non-union shop. Because I was 'american' I was given a higher pay than the other women in the factory, and I was warned that I would be fired if I told anyone what I was being paid. Well there was another white woman hired the same time I was and we got to talking that first day and I discovered that she was getting paid more money than I was and she had been told the same thing I had been. I was also friends with several of the Latino women that worked there and I told them the truth of the matter. They just accepted it, but I didn't work there too long..I quit.

8. Obama is running one hell of a campaign - battling in Florida is brilliant |
|
He is forcing the RNC to spend half their money on that state alone.

29. If every citizen over 18 who wanted to vote in FL could, |
|
...then I'm sure Obama would win. I'm worried that so many people will be disenfranchised that the Republicans will be able to cheat their way to victory in FL. http://www.alternet.org/democracy/98609/florida_voting_law_may_disenfranchise_thousands/

She went all the way to the SCOTUS to fight for American women, only to have five dickheads come up with the lamest excuses in the history of the Court to come out in favor of corporate greed. Not many people can stand up to that kind of pressure.

23. Here's what the Republican stooges say to Ledbetter's story: |
|
Women are paid less than men for similar positions because they often take time off for maternity leave, modify their work schedules to accommodate their young children, etc. Men, on the other hand, stay within a corporate system continuously; no leave for the birth of their children, etc.
That was an actual argument from a Cincinnati RW talking head.

27. As a woman, I'm having trouble understanding what is wrong w/that argument. |
|
There are laws in place that mandate equal pay for equal work regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity. This applies to the exact jobs, as opposed to similar-type jobs.
But people ARE paid differently, according to how many hours they put in on the job, dedicate themselves to the work and to training, and tenure. I work at a law firm. The lawyers, I believe, are all paid the same...if they work the same hours. If some work less than others, for whatever reason, they are paid less. I can understand that. So...????

26. After listening to Jonathan Alter |
|
discuss the Emmett Till overtones in a mclame ad (using an Obama picture w/ the Biden comment that palin is an attractive woman - Alter didn't want to believe it was intentional - pull-eeeeze!), there need to be more like this. It goes a long way to erase that white woman scared of the big, bad black man plus Lilly is from the south.
I have seen very few mclame ads here in CA - guess they don't want to waste their money here - are there other mclame ads w/ these racist 'messages'?
