Japan continues to whale into the present day as if whales have no special place on the planet, as if all that matters is who can bring death.

Sea Shepherd returns to Antarctic November 2008 to stop Japanese Whale Killers.

1. I just don't get it why the Japanese insist on the continued
slaughter of whales. They are a great industrialized County. Whale meat couldn't be that important to them.

2. They want to prove something
I am not familiar with Japanese view of the world, but I think it is similar to reasons they bombed Pearl Harbor, massive hubris.

""The Japanese government, which considers anti-whaling sentiment to be cultural imperialism, is spending money to try to make the Japanese like whale meat. The Washington Post says the Japanese government and pro-whaling groups spend $5 million a year promoting whale meat. They'll show up at schools to have kids try it, for example. Meanwhile, demand is falling along with prices. Whale meat is down 20% from 1999 to 2004 ($15 a pound to $12 a pound). And they still have extra that they have to freeze. So why bother?""
