Sonic boom during event for those affected by Ike

My uncle is a firefighter and went down to help. He wrote: "I am home got back yesterday. We were out for 3 weeks. Went down to chase Gustauv and stayed for Ike. The devastation in Galveston was awful. So many homes and businesses wiped out. As for which was worse they were too different. I was in to the fray much earlier this time than in NY so I was dealing with some of the actual people affected. Plus we rode out Ike in Houston and that was the worst hurricane I ever went through. Of course my experience level is not all that high."

Then they went to some support event for those affected (and helping) with Ike. Two navy jets did overflies with sonic booms. My cousin (his son) did the second one. You can tell when the boom hits by the flaring behind the jet.

2. Exactly... WTF? Why are they wasting fuel doing Sonic Booms?

FEMA just said yesterday that it was too expensive to bring in ICE for Hurricane victims.. that is was no longer FEMA'S job.. but yet they have time to dick around with Military Jet fly bys? Does anyone know how much it costs per hour to operate a fighter jet? This country has lost its absolute 'friggin mind.
