4. I have to disagree with Cenk of this one,
I DO NOT think we should be polite to these criminals. BECAUSE they are CRIMINALS!!!!!!!

5. I think it's more effective (and less likely to get you in trouble) if you tell them off "politely"
I mean, I guess it depends on how you define polite. I'm not a fan of getting in someone's face and yelling and gesturing aggressively, etc.

:)

6. I wasn't advocating screaming and cussing, but I do mean
stronger words, such as evil, greedy, heartless, aiders and abettors in mass murder....the list is long.

7. IMO, using loaded language makes it easier for them to dismiss you as a 'crazy lib'...
If Cenk had said "you're an evil, greedy, heartless murderer(!)" Bartlett would just roll his eyes and think "liberal freak".

Instead Cenk calmly told him they did a lot of damage to this country, which I think will resonate and stick in his mind much longer.

It's like when you get in an argument and someone uses harsh words vs someone says they're disappointed in you. IMO the latter is much more damaging.

16. I think so too because when you talk to people politely people are wired naturally to listen then
you can throw the zinger in like that they didn't do a very good job - and it really messes them up because it wasn't what they were expecting.

8. yeah, but what will being impolite get you outside of the immediacy of the moment?
Undue attention from others who will interpret it as you as harassing a guy who was minding his own business and then you are the bad guy, you're the one who security will escort off the plane or detain for a few hours. You will be disregarded as some crazy hot-head.

Keeping your cool, maintaining your dignity will drive the dagger in further because the guy cannot run from that. He is caught off guard. People are more prepared for someone who is yelling and acting out than they are for someone who is talking calmly and politely.

11. Dan Bartlett
Do you think this is the first time someone has told Bartlett
he is a disgrace to this country? Can't believe it even
bothers him anymore.

12. I disagree
I think it DOES bother him. It's harder to ignore if it happens multiple times, especially if it's calmly delivered.

15. Wow. Just wow. Cenk, that may just be the best thing you've done
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 10:40 PM by checks-n-balances
in a long time, and you've already done an awesome job even without this remarkable episode.

Every one of 'em should have to endure being confronted by average citizens with something like, "Thanks to the policies of your administration/the laws you helped pass/the war you lied us into...(etc.)"...followed by how much they've ruined this country almost beyond repair, for several more generations to come.

If justice is ever going to be done, then they should never be insulated anymore from us who live in the "reality-based" world. And they should be told by real people to their faces that we - and billions of people all over the world (as well as history itself) - will never, EVER forgive or forget what they've done!

You have my undying admiration, Cenk!
