OK, this might not seem to be the most important topic, compared to McGoo and Mooseilini on their way to the WhiteHouse and the meltdown of the entire American financial sector.
But these commercials pissed me off to no end. High fructose corn syrup has been proven to induce obesity and type II diabetes much faster than regular cane sugar, sucrose. Because HFCS is so much cheaper to produce (thanks in part to Big Corn companies like Archer Daniels Midland forcing tariffs on Mediterranean cane sugar) and provides a huge profit margin, and because Americans have a sweet tooth, it is in just about everything we eat. Surprisingly, the introduction of massive amounts of HFCS into the American food supply just happened to coincide with the American "obesity epidemic". Huh, think there is a connection?
In books like the Omnivore's Dilemma, we find that Americans are eating more and more and more corn, because it makes money for big agrobusiness. But it makes us much less healthier.
So, what's wrong with the commercials? They feature someone who doesn't want to ingest HFCS - but doesn't know why. Versus a shill who mocks them for their ignorance and posits that if they don't know why HFCS is bad, then how bad could it be?
IT GIVES YOU DIABETES AND MAKES YOU FAT, YOU SHILL.
Imagine a similar commercial mocking people who don't want to smoke cigarettes. Big business is entirely without scruples. Let's hope these commercials have the exact opposite effect from what they wish and piss others off as well.
