Book: Cheney's Drive for Warrantless Spying Nearly Brought Down Bush Presidency

We speak to award-winning journalist Barton Gellman about his new book, Angler: The Cheney Vice Presidency. Gellman reveals Cheney played a crucial role in maintaining warrantless spying even after Justice Department officials began to doubt its legality in 2004. Gellman writes: The history of the Bush administration cannot be written without close attention to the moments when Cheney took the helm—sometimes at Bushs direction, sometimes with his tacit consent, and sometimes without the presidents apparent awareness

1. This interview with Gellman and the research he did for his new book
...shows just how inempe the Bush administration was during their first term in office. Dick Cheney really acted from the shadows, but others throughout the administration and on Bush's staff were acting like college sophomores pulling all-nighers for those term papers, cramming for mid-terms, copying others notes for missed lectures, etc. being content with passing grades of C minus or even D's and F's as long as they get can by and move on. Just like the work habits of Shrub the Chimper in charge and Darth Cheney in deep background

3. It must be horrible...
...to live in such a world of paranoia and outright fear. Under other circumstances I might even feel pity for him. Now I would like for him to spend the rest of his days in prison.

5. It must be horrible...
Congress bypassed the chance to impeach him. Appropriate, I suppose, since Cheney's had several bypasses himself...

7. Indeed,
Congress has failed the country in the worst imaginable way. Cheney will probably harvest organs from homeless vets for the next 200 years because of the cowardice of Pelosi and Reid.

4. Jesus. So Cheney interviewed all of those powerful GOP
possible VP choices, then used that information to blackmail them and keep them out of the cabinet? Holy shite.

6. I used to call myself an angler. I meant that I could find the right argument in a debate to back
up my social justice views. Now I'm embarrassed. I'm not a Cheney!!!
