This is a MUST SEE. I don't know when this was, but notice that it was on CSPAN3 so I doubt many people saw it.

Anybody know when this was? Probably when he was still Fed Chairman.

Edit: BLAH. Brain fart, its Bernie Sanders. I had Barney Frank on the mind because he is on Charlie Rose right now.

8. I wish everybody would watch this
The Greenspan's of the world just do not get it. They're operating an economy for the corporations so they don't care where the jobs are. They don't care if "purchasing power" means you have to buy dollar store crap or Chinese prescriptions that might kill you or your kids. It's more than "out of touch", it's total disregard.

15. Spews out this "greatest country" crap to hide how he turns it into a corporatocracy greatest for ri
the rich only while others should be thankful they let us live here outside of cages if we pay enough of our wages back to them. I would piss on this man but it wouldn't change anything beyond being a step in the right direction. Economic policies to slowly destroy a nation=Greenspan.

22. Greenspan gave the shallowest bullshit non-answer I've ever heard.
Yeah, we may be developing the technology in the U.S., but that technology is being transported overseas and is being used against the American worker. Same with capital.

Sanders was right. We're trading good-paying manufacturing jobs for minimum-wage service jobs with few, if any benefits like health insurance, a la WalMart. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that, even with the 'cheaper' imports from China and elsewhere, that 'benefit' will run its course and Americans will not be able to even afford them as their wages lose ground to inflation.

We've been a nation running on debt and when the current financial market crisis appeared, it exposed how vulnerable Americans are.

During a program I recently attended, the speaker pointed out that Americans' savings rate was a MINUS FOUR PERCENT, compared to 10 to 50 percent in other countries. This country and its standard of living that Greenspan touted cannot exist when it is leveraged in debt to this extent.

Greenspan's remarks just show what an aloof idiot he is and it's scary to think he chaired such a powerful part of our financial system.

Hell, the Fed itself is unconstitutional in my opinion. The Constitution says that CONGRESS shall issue money, not some quasi--private/government bank that never gets audited.

23. Purchasing Power
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 06:37 AM by JHB
Greenspan's argument hinges on maintaining the "purchasing power" of the workers. I'd be very interested in seeing inflation-adjusted stats for that since WW2: total, per capita, and median. When factory and office jobs get replaced with shelf-stocking and burger-flipping jobs, it damn well does not maintain the "purchasing power" of the work force.

He sings the praises of our standard of living, while either being blind to how it got that way or lying and just acting like he's blind.

I'd say more, but watching this tends to elicit enraged animal noises, and I can't spell those very well.
