And if he keeps saying Paulson is so bad, then why would O even give the guy that much money at all? Or consider it in the first place?

Why give Paulson money? Why even consider it in the first place?

6. I think you have to consider it |
|
But I still haven't seen any good explanation of why this is so essential and has to be done with such urgency. Bernanke said if we don't we risk a recession, well gee, we're already in one and will officially be so soon. And Schumer was right in asking why can't we give them a lower number, so if it's working and several months from now go back and do whatever we have to do, if that's give more money or revamp the plan, so be it. I think Paulson and the Bushies want it all themselves so that they can do whatever they have to do to protect themselves and their cronies and that a future administration has no oversight or say in it.
In the context of this clip, I think Goolsbee has to cover Obama's bases, if and when he goes along with a bailout plan.

I’m impressed by Mr. Goolsbee. He is an example of the quality people that would be part of an Obama administration.

And his luck is gleefully terrible. Like he just released an op-ed extolling the virtues of deregulation and that he wants to deregulate the health care industry like with did with banking, and he timed it right when we had a major financial meltdown....doh! :)

I think he was a big-time national debate winner when he was in college. He does a great job of making a case without sounding like he's reciting talking points. He also sounds like he eats bullets for breakfast.

17. I think he's ingrained to think that way |
|
He's so weak and status quo oriented. It's sort of like how guys are almost programmed to be a little bit sexist and we don't even know it because we're bombarded with sexist behavior and images since our birth. Gregory is a walking amalgam of Beltway Conventional Wisdom bullshit, he knows so much of the wrong insulated stuff that he can't even see reality when it's right in front of him. That's how most of them are, they can tell you what a poll says about who somebody wants to have a beer with but they're too brainwashed to notice when the emperor has no clothes.

16. The best and the brightest |
|
Are we seeing with Obama's advisers a return to the Kennedy-esque "best and the brightest?" I see this as a very good thing. They seem young and smart, as opposed to Bush-McCain's old boy network of greedy corporatists. The Republican response to any crisis lately seems to be "give us more money and power, and don't worry about the details." I think I'd like somebody to worry about details again.
Wouldn't it be nice if America were run by thoughtful, intelligent leaders, who came up with imaginative and truly beneficial programs? My Republican friends and relatives accuse me of wishful thinking. But dammit, can't we try letting smart people run the country, just once?
