Lawmakers from both parties in the House and Senate announced that they have a bailout deal that will pass both houses.

The deal was struck before McCain participated in any meetings on the bailout in Capitol Hill.

1. Does that mean that the meeting at the WH was precluded?

4. I think the WH meeting is still on
But like Barney Frank said in the press conference, "We should note that some of us have been invited to go to the White House today to try and break a deadlock. And I'm glad that we'll be able to go and tell them that there really isn't much of a deadlock to break...but I'm always glad to get to go to the White House."

IOW, there is no real need to go to the WH, but they will still go.

I don't see how there is any way McCain will be able to steal credit for this deal.

8. Perhaps the whole idea wasn't to steal credit but to push the Democrats to sign on
Maybe they made them rush for political reasons thus helping BushCo get its talons into our collective flesh even more.

5. Only a few details have been released so far
WSJ Reports:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122235295272975207.html

"The proposed bill would approve the fund, but would pay the money out in installments, with $250 billion in bailout funds available immediately.

Lawmakers also agreed that limits on "golden parachutes" and use of warrants would apply to all companies. However, changes to bankruptcy laws still unresolved. The details still need to be ironed out with the White House.

The group of nine lawmakers declined to offer details about the legislation, but Republican Sen. Robert Bennett of Utah expressed optimism that lawmakers have a "plan that will pass the House and Senate."

3. Sounds like BushCo got what they wanted and democrats caved once again
...This will be a disaster for the next administration and America on a scale far bigger than the Iraq/Afghanistan wars involving trillions in bailout for the richest people all going into the Federal Debt with nothing for homeowners at risk of foreclosure. But congress get's their payoff as well.

11. Does it really matter what Bush signs--doesn't he simply sign a signing statement and does...
...what he wants anyway?

14. "Will be signed by the President", DO NOT ALLOW ANY BUSH SIGNING STATEMENTS!
...That rat bastard will sign the compromise bill and then staple his signing statement reverting the content of the bill back to his and Paulson's original request. IN NO WAY SHOULD CONGRESS ALLOW OR ACCEPT THAT!

15. It's just frucking amazing
That they can have this monetary debacle all tidy and back on track when it's the agreement crafter's and politician's personal welfares at risk! When it's the physical health of America's citizens - WHAO NO!!!! Let them fend for themselves! Folks unable to buy bread? Let 'em buy cake! Folks being raped at the gas pumps? This is a no-brainer.... if folks would WALK MORE, there'd be less need for health care!

17. That is the bare escence of non-representative government
435 representatives and 100 senators for 304.5 million Americans while spreads out the legislators to an average of one per 569,159 persons in the U.S.

No wonder corporate and special interest lobbists and their big wallets have the ears and minds of the U.S. Congress
