It'll be nice having a "straight man" in the White House as opposed to a clown.

2. Why would "your heart go out" to the writing staff? |
|
And why would they move on to new material if Palin's bringing new material each week. If anything, the *funniest* lines might have been those that most closely matched what Palin actually said. Rather than creating new material for Palin, they should have just quoted her directly -- and the audience would have laughed just as hard, and it would have been that much more hilarious to those in the know.
And if you're going to critique the SNL writing staff, you might ask why they had to create imaginary scandals for Obama? Or have I missed where Obama is giving tax breaks to people who have bribed him?

I work for the Second City in Chicago and have known many of the past and present writers of the show--plus I write political satire myself. And this was a TOUGH week because the political world kept changing so fast.

5. It was a target rich landscape, so I'm not sure what the difficulty ... |

... unless there's a need to identify the *top* satire-worthy moment. As Stewart and others have stated, the job isn't exactly tough given the material there is to work with nowadays. (see Palin's interviews, McCain's erratic actions) By contrast, consider the Obama lines written for the debate; for balance, it seems like satirists often stretch for material for Democratic candidates. They probably struggled to find anything worthy of ridicule and appear to have dreamed-up some pretty shady allegations, in the end.
