1. The Veteran there, who said...
that he was on the Forestal, and he's voting for Obama... I wonder why? Could it be that they were more concerned, on the Forestall, with rescuing an Admaral's son than other seamen?

3. I was there...
But there were so many people, I couldn't get onto Ball Circle, but instead was behind the tents at the entrance. The turnout was enormous! I have never seen so many people in one place in my life. The number of people was probably way more than 26000, seeing as how thousands of people were still in a line that wrapped around the campus and nearby streets -- they couldn't even fit them on the campus.

And it wasn't just a rainshower...it was a torrential downpour for the better part of almost an hour and then it rained for the rest of the time. And people stayed, they chanted Obama's name and it was great.

FIRED UP AND READY TO GO!

7. Welcome to DU!
I was there too, at the same place. :hi: To get in you had to stand in line for hours but where we were wasn't that different. Meaningful because Mary Washington is my alma mater.

I agree I think there were more than 26,000 because the crowd kept moving and the line was snaking all the way through campus and down Sunken road, the road below the campus.

9. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Happy to be here! :)

@Demnan - I was slightly to the right of the white entrance tents to Ball Circle, almost underneath the tree. We waited for hours and I was hoping they were going to let some of us in, but nope...We could see the CHANGE sign and every so often, a glimpse onto the stage. But honestly, it was just electrifying just being there. I took my older son, who is almost 13, and he was so excited. It was a really cool moment. I know he'll remember standing in the pouring rain to see PRESIDENT Obama when he was campaigning.

:)Heather

10. It POURED! I was able to get into Ball Circle
Some very kind people let me into line because I was limping (bad knee) and they gave me a ticket. This was about 3:45 and halfway down the hill after the line turned the corner on William St. I stopped to buy a t-shirt because I was so hot and I lost them.

Everyone there was good, except when it started raining cats and dogs some of us were able to hang inside the tent over the entrance. Secret service guards were ushering people OUT of the event and some kind of fight broke out and we fled back into the crowd, inside Ball Circle. I'm not sure if I got that part on video, as I was taping on and off. They were confiscating umbrellas (which they had stated would NOT be allowed into the event) and people started producing them and Secret Service was taking them away and people were getting mad about that. I have a thread with a few pics:

After the brouhaha, we got a place with a GREAT view. we were right behind the table barrier near the press tower, with a wide open space between us and the crowd right in front of Obama.

12. I know this is irrelevant
but I think the fact that Barack Obama is giving a rally at the location of one of the most famous Civil War battles is somewhat symbolic of how far we've come. Unless that's a different Fredericksburg which I doubt.

13. not irrelevant at all in my mind
I grew up in Central VA, and when I watched the rally in Lynchburg online, I think my mouth was hanging open the whole time at the thought of Obama getting a cheering reception a couple of miles from Jerry Falwell's church.

And yes, I'm sure that's the same Fredericksburg - heck, all of VA is covered in Civil War battlefields. Maybe Obama can visit Appomattox. :)

16. Yes that is the same Fredericksburg
and the battle was fought right at the campus site, it was called Mary's Hill after Mary Washington. Sunken Road was the famous line of battle where people were lining up to go into the event. The College was built later in the early 20th century.

Obama Slams McCain (3:29am)

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Saturday called Republican rival John McCain out of touch with middle-class Americans, telling supporters that the GOP senator never once uttered the words "middle class" during their first debate. "Through 90 minutes of debate, John McCain had a lot to say about me, but he didn't have anything to say about you," Obama told a cheering crowd at the J. Douglas Galyon Depot in downtown Greensboro. "He didn't even say the words 'middle class.' He didn't even say the words 'working people."' Obama debuted his post-debate attack on McCain with a campaign swing through North Carolina and Virginia, Republican-leaning states where he thinks he can make inroads. He also found time to speak by phone to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., about the congressional negotiations surrounding the Wall Street recovery deal, according to campaign staff.

McCain Says Obama Didn't "Have Such A Good Night" (3:26am)

UNDATED (AP) - John McCain is criticizing his opponent's performance in Friday night's debate. McCain says Barack Obama didn't have "such a good night," claiming the Democrat tried to use the looming market meltdown for political gain. He told the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance in Ohio via satellite that Obama sees the problem as something "to be exploited first and solved later." Obama's camp is also seizing on the debate as campaign fodder and has already made up a new ad critical of McCain for never once using the term "middle class." Obama's campaign manager also says McCain's efforts to paint Obama as inexperienced on foreign affairs was "sophomoric." The next debate is between the two vice presidential candidates, Joe Biden and Sarah Palin, Thursday in St. Louis.
