1. if a pastor wants to endorse a candidate - he/she should feel free to do so
if a person wants to attend a church where a pastor endorses a candidate, he/she should feel free to do so.

Just don't ask for a tax break.

Simple.

Live your principles. Don't let greed get in the way of your principles.

3. Great.....withdraw their tax exempt status. You think the fascist party wouldn't scream ????
If that's what they do...then they need to lose the tax exempt status. I have NO PROBLEM with it. If they think "God directs them"...then they can pay their taxes like all the other fruit cake evangelical knuckle heads.

Do what you want...but don't claim the tax exempt status that your neutrality to politics requires. I'd get up and scream if my pastor, preacher, priest, etc started in telling ME how to vote. The f*cking nerve!!

5. Pull their tax exempt status. They can endorse who they want
but I'm not going to give them money to do it. They should be arrested and fined.

10. Why is it that the ones that claim to be the most religious, are
the ones that always break the rules and laws. Oh, let's pretend that we are just fighting the system until the election. Actually, they are just following the example of the Republican party. Break the law if it suits you, then try to have it changed and retroactively pronounce yourself innocent. If McCain wins office, they know that McCain/Palin will certainly not push the IRS to enforce this existing law. If Obama is elected, I hope that he removes the Tax Exempt status of every last church. Nothing to lose here, so ethics be damned. This is just one more example of why religious people are the last ones to trust.

On the bright side, this is nothing new. At least now that they have it organized, it would make it easier to prosecute these criminals since their names are now all publicly associated with this organization.

16. You forgot something.
Republicans will also break the law to see if anyone holds them to account. If not, they will continue to break the law. Best example: Bolton, Miers, and Rove. Nobody has called them out on their contempt of Congress and now we have criminals in Alaska doing the same thing. Thank you Nancy. I hope the book sales are going well!

19. Thanks for ruining my morning.
It puts me in a bad mood every time I think about it. Yes, that is an excellent point you make. We have set a precedent, in a sense, with those 3 criminals and have basically demonstrated that we don't hold people accountable. Since it worked once already, why not do it every time. Any criminal would be crazy to answer a subpoena if there are no repercussions for just ignoring it. I, for one, am still shocked that no in the group of 3 or the group of Alaskans is not in jail. Nancy has been such a huge disappointment.

20. I think back to 1987...
...when Mathias Rust flew his Cessna 172 through Soviet airspace and landed on Red Square. The Soviet defense minister and hundreds of other officers were fired. Now, that's accountability. In the U.S. you fail at your constitutional responsibilities and then you go on a book tour. Pelosi makes me physically ill.

Sorry for ruining your morning, by the way. Check out this video I saw on another thread. It sure made my day.

Thanks for the video link. It made my day and venting a little sure helped as well. Actually, somebody should post that video as a discussion link titled "Exclusive footage of Palin Moose hunting expedition". It is what I am envisioning the scene of Palin hunting moose might look like.

We need to start forcing all churches to post a copy of the Bill of Rights by their front doors if they want tax exempt status. Otherwise, tax the hell out of them!

14. A TIME LIKE THIS CALLS FOR COURAGE
I pray courage for the followers who do not agree with these manipulative preachers. I pray for them to have the strength to rise up and leave the church as the preacher starts to use it as a political podium instead of an altar for God. Whatever the religion be it christian, muslim, buddhist, judaism they go against the laws of this land when they use their power to try and influence our elections.

and yes render onto Caesar then -- let the taxing begin.

22. they can say whatever they want on their dime
I have ZERO problem with that.

if they are on the taxpayers dime (and tax exempt means WE are paying their taxes) they don't get to talk about politics.
That's the deal.

I don't think they should be arrested... I do think they should be immediately notified of a change in their tax status.

23. actaully... this is GOOD GOOD GOOD
How much tax revenue can the country get if we start taxing the churches?
It might go a long ways to helping us out of the financial hole we're in.

provided, of course, that the IRS to follows the law... and they're greedy so they just might.
The same sort of thing happened in 92 with a church that took out an ad urging people to vote against Clinton.
They got their exemption yanked and the courts upheld the decision.

I hope those pastors DO break the law and pay the consequences. Goodness knows we could use some extra tax revenue for the bailout and I'll bet those mega-churches will owe BIG $$$$! :bounce:
