this video really goes after the Mormon church and its attempt to enforce its relgion on everyone in California. REad about it on KOS where it is listed in the diaries. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/11/1/184413/134/646/649219It is very blunt and would not make it to TV probably but it can be spread virally. Mormonism as a religion certainly is (like religions in general, though obviously many members do not follow this trend), but there are two problems with that political line.
First, it singles out the Church of LDS alone--but, while they certainly have participated exceptionally in this campaign, they are hardly alone among religious groups seeking the prohibition of same-sex marriage.
Second, true or not, actually saying it is politically dangerous. We must avoid making this into a fight about religion: that's what the supporters of Prop. 8 want, because it's the basic reason people support the proposition. The best political line is "equal rights"--clear and simple. Keep religion out of it.

8. True or not, none of that challenges either of the points I made. |

They may in fact be dangerous and anti-gay, but that doesn't mean it's a wise political move to say they are.
Attacking any religion is the wrong way to win this vote. However justified the attacks may be.
