3. this impersonation is pretty much unrecognizable... none of keith's humor.
the "worst person in the world" segment is over the top, yes, but intentionally so.

i do not see keith deliberately smearing people with lies as portrayed in this skit. the only recognizable aspect is some of the overly formal grammatical constructions keith uses for dramatic effect. but this gets the essence of who keith is totally wrong

7. yeah, i thought it was kind of funny in itself
but not that good an impersonation. the good ones are usually not so over the top and you really see the person they are impersonating and could tell even without the makeup. the special comment part was good. it would have been better if they cut it down some and it would have been better if Affleck had toned it down and tried to avoid laughing.

i think someone posted a youtube of someone else doing an olbermann impersonation on sandwiches which was really good.

good examples are the Darrell Hammond Clinton, Gore and Fey as Sarah Palin .especially the Clinton one where he doesn't even have to say much but just a few words and the smile give him away.

14. I didn't get it at all
I'm thinking Olbermann is not such a great subject for a satire. He does have some characteristics that can be amplified, but they aren't particularly funny. Most of the time during Keith's show, he isn't taking himself too seriously.

As he said, the SNL skit will only help him. Most of the people watching that have not seen his show, and some of them might tune in now.

4. It was over exaggerated parody
I thought it was funny.
I'll bet Kieth does too.

5. satire is supposed to have an ethical point, not just be for laffs
what is the ethical point behind this satire? it accuses olbermann of viciously smearing everyone by calling them nazis, and not allowing any of his guests to speak. this, to me, is not good satire, or particularly humorous, because it's not making fun of anything that actually occurs on the show

8. I understand your point.
It wasn't a hilarious skit to me, but the impression was entertaining.
And it will be forgotten by next friday.

26. yeah, that's like American Carol painting M. Moore as anti 4th of July
...which, since it isn't even slightly based on anything the real Michael Moore has ever done, utterly fails to score any points on Moore. That wasn't nearly hooked enough to the real K.O. -- the one bit where they scored a point was when they had him misinterpret the grammar of Hitler being "a good example"... that's something I've actually seen him do, slightly.

27. It's parody, not satire.
satire |ˈsaˌtīr|
noun
the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.

parody |ˈparədē|
noun ( pl. -dies)
an imitation of the style of a particular writer, artist, or genre with deliberate exaggeration for comic effect : the movie is a parody of the horror genre

9. entirely stupid - don't waste your 8 minutes of time on it
Edited on Sun Nov-02-08 07:34 AM by ksimons

It's slow and stupid and the writing wasn't very creative or funny. If they were going to try to do this, they could have mixed in some subtle stuff with the overdone material. Better make-up would have helped to at least drive the point into the fringe of funny. Probably most people left for the kitchen as it went on and on and on.

They could have thrown something together last-minute with the French prank call that would have been 100x funnier than this.

10. Now THIS guy knows how to parodize KO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4llHNTMZjE

He does a "Special Comment" about the Subway "double meat" sandwich not having enough meat.

Watch it, Affleck, and weep.

The part where he compares Jared to Kim-Jong Il and demands his resignation gets me every time.

19. OMG! That was funny
So well done. Captures KO's outrage, passion, conviction and unique tangled web of words, but directs it at such a weak topic. Brilliant.

24. SNL RIP
You're right, that was distinctly better than the SNL Affleck version, except in makeup. (I tracked down the video elsewhere.) People have said that SNL has had something of a renaissance this season and they're doing the best stuff they've put out in years... if that's true, then they truly must have sunk lower in the meantime than I ever would have believed.

"we have seen this fear before ... in russia under stalin, in massachusetts under mitt romney. it is a fear sir, and a tyranny up with which we dare no longer put"

 :spray:

I found this incredibly hilarious. The way KO uses proper grammar was pushed over the edge here. And we did feel fear and tyranny under Mitt here in Massachusetts ;)

23. Tedious and not much funny.
You have to have some basis in TRUTH to make a parody, such as Palin. But this was making things up that had no basis in reality.

Not worth the watch.

28. it was good...
Olbermann is shown as being just as outrageous and partisan as O'Reilly which is apparent whenever I've seen Countdown.

Is Olbermann as much of a douchebag and spinmeister as this skit? Of course not, these skits always exaggerate. But Countdown is annoying in my opinion.
