Complicated as he was, Phil would have loved and criticized Barack Obama all at the same time. But I think this song, a song Phil wrote to be considered as a new national anthem, deserves to be played tonight.

It wasn't Phil in his best voice(he had been beaten and nearly strangled during a concert tour of Africa shortly before this, and his voice never fully recovered)but to me that makes this rendition of his song that much more powerful and poignant.

A song for a night of history.
