34. I do have problems with her comments beforehand...
but at the same time Obama's speech was absolutely amazing in it's all encompassing "yes, we can". It was a moving speech.

I had incredible dislike for McCain's party platform the last two years, but after listening to his concession speech, I was moved by his words also. Should I have maintained my dislike towards him?

Obama's vision wants us to move past party politics and that is what we should do. Congratulations to her!

43. If she believed what she said prior to the election, she should be worried...
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 05:37 AM by Make7
... that Obama won the election. How could someone not be deeply concerned that Obama will be the next President if they truly believe that he has not been honest with us, and that he has questionable judgement and/or views because of his associations with Rev. Wright and William Ayers?

I doubt that it is possible for her to have been sincere in her statements both prior to and following the election. Therefore, I reserve my right to remain skeptical.

Perhaps now that McCain has lost, maybe his decisions will be informed more by what he believes than by his ambition to reach the oval office. I never disliked him until he started selling out his principles in order to get the support he thought he needed to become President. Is one speech going to change my less than favorable opinion of him that has been evolving since he lost the 2000 primary? Not unless it is an adequate explanation of what happened to the old John McCain.

Based on my experience, liking someone is not a requirement in order to work with them or even listen to them. As long as they can disagree without demonizing those with an opposing viewpoint, and are willing to listen to people and cooperate in order to come up with solutions, I will welcome their input to the conversation. However, people with a history of being disingenuous will still be met with an appropriate degree of skepticism until they establish a new chapter in their history.

5. I don't understand this.
How can a person change this drastically? How can she feel this way after saying all those things she has said. I don't get it. I think part of this is what I was thinking the night of the 4th. After watching the unbridled joy in the streets of this country and after my own celebration in a local club of unbelievable emotion coming out of people, I felt so incredibly sorry for anyone who was not part of all that. We will remember how we felt that night for the rest of our lives. Perhaps Hasselbeck just doesn't want to be left out.
But how can you change like that?

8. And another thing. I think people like Hasselbeck were shocked to the core to see
so many Americans explode like that. They must have thought to themselves, "Sh*t. There must be something here that I am truly missing." And to hear these crowds break into patriotic songs like that and not meekly. This video really blew me away. Listen to how loud everyone was singing:

Obama's presidency will be truly transformational.

And yeah, I think not wanting to be left out is a big part of it. Looking at all that joy on people's faces in Grant Park, I did feel sorry for people who felt they weren't part of it, and I want as many people as possible to be part of it.

Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 10:10 PM by trthnd4jstc
They have collectively acted as if everyone who is a lefist is evil and unpatriotic. They have called us names and demonized us. They turned a word: Liberal, and demonized that. They have hamstrung good legislation, and prevented good legislation, unless their rich A$$hole "Friends" get some sort of job-Kick Back- from our Federal and State Governments. They have hurt us economically, internationally, and domestically. They have weakened us, and Ms. Hasselbeck has been one consistent Apologist for these Traitors.

Thanks for the Post!

14. someone I work with said something similar
she did not vote Obama, but she said the day after the election that she finally got it. What everyone else saw in him. She didn't know why she couldn't see it before, but his acceptance speech is how she saw it. She said the right thing for the country happened and she was happy with result. Maybe his acceptace speech was geared more toward those who did not vote him ?

I may have to listen to it again. She also told me she believed he would listen to other people's opinions and make the best decision possible. She felt that including as many people as he possibly could was a great thing and was the best way for the country to progress.

I guess, we shouldn't underestimate Barack. He turned Hasselbeck around. Think he could turn Rush around?

18. important points in his speech
"to those whose support I have yet to earn..." He spoke to them. "I will listen to you, especially when we disagree" he speaks to them. When was the last time you heard any politician, let alone a republican provide such a respectful acknowledgment to those who lost and did not support him/her?

Good for Elizabeth. I hope she is sincere and that she continues to find reasons to keep us in check.

26. I think this is the key to why Obama will be a good president
Over and above all of Obama's ideals he is a leader. We've been sorely lacking in the leadership department for a long time. The current president told us to be scared shitless of terrorists but to go shopping anyway. I believe President Obama will tell us the truth, tell us there will be hard times but we have to work together (very much like FDR fireside chats). We don't need bullshit right now. We need the truth and we need a president to be an example of how we can find our way again.

People like Hasslebeck never really thought Obama had a chance of winning. Now that they know just how many Americans thought he was worthy of their vote, some swift back-peddling is in order to avoid looking like idiots.

I guess that sounds cynical, but Hasslebeck has never shown any indication of thoughtfulness or ideas of her own.

42. As some know I don't trust anyone but there is an explanation for her switch
I am a big fan of the authoritarian POV on explaining the RW. They are not conservatives. They aren't religious wackos. They are authoritarians.

When EH saw BO's speech he became the authority figure and therefore he commanded her loyalty. And authoritarians, being the amoral people they are, put all of her objections in the past. She will believe anything the authority figure says because they don't believe anything themselves. Mainly because they have very little self realization.

Obama replaces Hannity. And we have a liberal EH. At least until someone scares her then its back to the same old EH. Because authoritarians live on fear.

BTW liberals and progressives have very little authoritarian qualities. Just isn't in their psych make up.:smoke:

they have a natural affinity to authoritarianism. "obama is now my president-elect so i have a patriotic duty to sumit to him." she probably thinks the president is her commander in chief, even though she is not in the military.

She never said a word when he told his story about why he was voting for Obama instead of McCain. Maybe Dennis had a heart to heart with Lizzie. I think she had to come around with a child asking questions. You can't tell a kid to hate the next Pres though many parents have. One lady in our campaign offfice said that she teaches and they were explaining it all. One kid spoke up and said the Democrats are the ones that kill babies. She about fell over.

47. We can't really have "Change" in America without a change of heart
and I believe that president Obama can do that, if he keeps his promises.(YES WE CAN) The country is tired of being cheated and lied to. I think the "Winning Of Hearts And Minds" starts here in America...how can we win any hearts and minds in the rest of the world if we can't win the ones in our own country.

Divisiveness, narrow-mindedness, greed, jingoism, radio active bullets, Abu Ghraibism and not so smart bombs, totally undermine, leadership, good will, trust, respect, peace and love. Our beacon of freedom has been dimmed almost to extinction by the greed driven, power crazed, dim ones who have been misleading our country. President Obama faces an enormous job and I really do believe he is up to it.

I would love nothing more than to see world peace in my lifetime.

The man says, "YES WE CAN!" I hope and pray that he can walk that walk...
