I can't figure out what's worse; WHAT he's saying or HOW he's saying it.

4. Spiro was good at using $50 words
I believe Pat Buchanan deserves credit for some of his most memorable phrases (including "effete corps of impudent snobs" used in the clip anchoring this thread).

7. Checked elsewhere
Form Answers.com:

Although this phrase
(nattering nabobs of negativism) is often credited to Agnew himself, it was actually written by William Safire, the legendary columnist for The New York Times, who was a speechwriter for Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. Some of Agnew's other pearls were actually written by Patrick Buchanan, another White House speechwriter at the time.

It looks like we're both right.

I couldn't find an article assigning authorship of effete corps of impudent snobs, but I ran across one crediting Buchanan with silent majority.

8. Why doesn't he just come out and say "I hate all Americans
who don't agree with me."

That way he (or his speech writers) wont have to look up all those big words.
