Views on DU: 2074 | From Hannity and Colmes Nov. 10, 2008 COLMES: Why do you think you’ve been unable… close the deal with the people of Georgia in terms of what happened on Election Day?
CHAMBLISS: Well, listen, we have, for the first time in the history the our state, a 30-day advanced vote period, and let’s give the Obama people credit. They did a good job of getting out their vote early.
There was a high percentage of minority vote, and I am tickled to death that as many Georgians as did examined their right to vote. That’s what make our election process the envy of the whole free world, but we weren’t able to get enough of our folks out on Election Day. That's a challenge to get them out in a run-off but we look forward to that challenge and I'm pretty excited about looking towards Dec. 2nd.
COLMES: Is there anything you would have done differently in your first term to have maybe created a different result on election day?
CHAMBLISS: You know there really isn't, listen I've never stared a controversial issue in the face and run the other way. I think people of Georgia sent me to Washington to solve problems and we've made an attempt to do that and it's not always the popular thing to do but I think it's the right thing to do.
COLMES: You came under fire of course for that ad against Max Cleland and people have talked about that ever since, the one where there was an image of Osama bin Laden. If you had it to do all over again would you still have run that ad?
CHAMBLISS: You know that ad is a myth, it just hangs around. If people had seen the ads that were run against me by my then opponent they would think that was a light-weight ad, but you know politics is a contact sport. It's a game in where you have to define your opponent and we're going to continue to work hard to address the issues that are important to Georgians. We did then and we're going to do it again.
COLMES: So you would have run it, that, knowing what you know now you would have done the same thing and run the same ad?
CHAMBLISS: Listen that ad was very fair and it pointed out defficiencies in the voting record of my opponent.

2. so, if I ran an ad saying that Saxby Chambliss was a dickless coward |
|
It would be fair because I was just pointing out his, ahem, deficiencies?

3. That ad proved he was a total prick and he's using the same ad people this time around too |
|
One of his ads against Jim Martin (a helluva nice guy btw) accuses him of practically being a child murderer.
Saxby is a prick of the highest magnitude.

4. Forgive me for being crude, but... |
|
Chambliss deserves to have someone do sexual stuff to his corpse after he dies.
That's how foul he is.

We can't say that for certain.
All we can say is that he hasn't been caught in the last ten years. You can spin that as being proof that he hasn't. Or, you know, not. Whichever.

Like there was to get rid of Bachmann. The difference this time is that there will be enough time to get the job done.

15. I'm afraid that Democrats in Georgia... |
|
...are too timid, or too used to gettin' beat by Republicans, or too convinced that the electorate is still too stupid to know when they've been had, to mount anything close to a campaign built around the 'disgraceful and reprehensible' campaign that Saxby Chambliss ran on Max Cleland. I've been calling for an 'in Saxby's face' challenge over this for months and Jim Martin just won't do it...don't ask me why not.
By the way 'disgraceful and reprehensible' are the words John McCain used to describe that same campaign at the time. Now, apparently reverting back to the John McCain that we've come to revile during his most recent campaign, McCain has 'forgiven' Chambliss' slandar of a triple-amputee, Vietnam veteran and will campaign for him down here...whore that he is.

...at how Faux News continually provides a soapbox for what is essentially extended ads for whatever GOPrick candidate they have on. and they call it an interview. they call it journalism. fair and balanced!!
oh and saxby...let me tell you, atlantans are only too happy to have this extra month to prepare for the runoff election. nov. 2nd was all about the presidential race, and i know it wasn't only like that here. despite best efforts to try and promote the importance of paying attention to local candidates (and to be fair, i really think more people down here did do so in this election than have in quite awhile), i have no doubt in my mind that a great percentage of people went to the polls last tuesday with a watered-down (at best) idea of what any of the candidates stood for, in which case they voted for their presidential nominee based on either blind, ignorant, southern republican loyalty (there are so so many who don't need any info beyond "white republican vs. black democrat" to make a clear decision...who needs to actual information before voting!?) OR they voted for Obama because it was the cool thing to do. a lot of people go to vote without having a fucking clue and that's just how it is.
what that means for local offices is that people REALLY don't pay attention and REALLY don't have any idea what's at stake so they vote 9 times out of 10 based on name recognition. they'll go in to the booth, see a name that sounds familiar and say "oh! oh! i know them! they MUST be the right person to vote for because ive HEARD THEIR NAME!" and everyone in GA knows Saxby Chambliss' name...he's done a damn good job of getting that out there over the years, making sure the ubiquity of his name vastly overshadows the outcry over this shitty representation, scandalous past, and backwoods fucking politics. ya think maybe someone knows how dumb a great percentage of his constituency is??? yeah. sigh. puke.
jim martin has his flaws but he's a fucking sight better than that other asshole. hopefully, a few weeks of making georgians focus on just this race will make them think, just a little, and while that might hurt for a lot of them, maybe it'll give us the extra points we need to get rid of one of the worst senators currently sitting.
eh. two sides of the same fucked up coin.
politics is a bullshitstorm. love each other-

19. Those "interviews" are infomercial "interviews", they are really free ads |
|
for the GOP. The run-off election could come down to who wants it more. We need to want it more. I think this is a very important election, having more significance than just the Senate seat. If the GOP wins it, they could be re-energized, if they lose, they will be further demoralized. The result will be like the end of a movie in its effect.
