I've been out of the States for so long that I have no idea who Sanjaya is but being compared to him doesn't sound like a good thing.

Kofinis' comments that Dems are PRAYING for a Palin run in 2012 should be taken to heart by conservatives. But we all know that it won't be. :)

1. Sanjaya...
was a contestant on American Idol that absolutely sucked, yet had throngs of screaming and crying young fans.

23. DON'T GET THE NATIONAL POLITIQUE SUCKED INTO THIS
FLAGRANT 'CULT O' PERSONALITY' BULLSHIT. This election was won after hard, long, rigorous and a deeply convicted constituency. I personally have no more room for all this crap...Fuck Palin, and her idiot-minions. If the GOP wants her as a poster girl, fine...but when I read threads that are offering up the Obama daughters a spot on Hannah Montana, I want to puke. Did Bobby's, Martin's, JFK's, kids even dare get approached by the piranha we adoringly call pop-culture/media?? Hell no...We are engaged in a serious change of a unified, country wide direction...DON'T dumb down ...EVER. The Re-Thugs are just that...

2. Sanjaya

He was a very bad contestant on American Idol that just wouldn't go away - some folks voted for him because he was so awful. He had 15 minutes too long of fame.

The Palin = Sanjaya comparision is on the money.

You know, there is a MESSAGE section for your post. Please, do all of DU a favor, and freaking use it.

It is NOT CUTE. It is extremely annoying that you can't post a reply without whoring for a higher post count.

What if everybody did that? Just you doing it trashes up threads, so imagine what this place would look like if everyone THOUGHT they were as SPECIAL as you seem to think you are?

Ugh!

18. video clip of Sanjaya and the bawling 11.y.o. who watched him- he's NOT singing in this clip
he stayed on American Idol far too long and imo almost ruined the credibility of following true talent on the program. SOMEbody had to vote for him. but who in their right mind would do that?!? (Must have been RepubliKLANS since he used to sing in a choir. Take my word for it - don't watch that video clip on a full stomach.)

So, I see the correlation as Sanjaya and Sarah BOTH being DISASTERS who should have never been put in the positions they were in the first place;
and secondly, the majority were RELIEVED when both were finally stopped in their tracks;
and thirdly, they were both so ridiculous, it was morbid fascination, imo, watching to see how much worse it could get;
and fourthly, it was comic relief;
and fifthly, they both pawned themselves off as possessing talent that neither did.

This list could be expanded upon, but you get the idea, I think.

When the best thing Simon can say about you is "it wasn't horrible" that's not a good thing.

And Good Lord, who was styling that child's hair and buying his clothes? Or did think that looking like he just stepped out of some bad late 70's movie was a good thing???

20. Where do the Republicans get off thinking they have a lock on "family values?"
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 06:57 AM by bulloney
With their war mongering? With their "corporations first, little guy last" attitude?

Ron Christie is a political hack. I remember dealing with him when he was on the staff of former Ohio Congressman John Kasich. He was judgmental and would never meet with you if he thought ahead of time you are presenting positions on issues that weren't hard-right. I remember walking into Kasich's office and asked to meet with Christie. The receptionist said he wasn't in. I looked in the door to my left and there he was. Sitting and looking like he wasn't too busy.

Christie's argument on Palin's "executive experience" doesn't hold water, now that we've seen her in action. You can have years of "executive experience," but if you don't learn anything from that experience, what good are you?

After her experience as mayor of Wasilla and governor of Alaska, she showed that she's virtually ignorant on foreign and domestic matters. She couldn't tell you what countries are in North America, for crying out loud! She didn't know that Africa is a continent. Her surrogates tried to market her by touting her attempt to sell a plane on E-Bay. When the media scrutinize her after she throws all kinds of crap at Obama and creates an atmosphere of hate toward the man, she squeals like a little pig (with lipstick) that the media are unfair.

If the Republicans want to bring out Palin as their standard bearer for 2012, they will do it at their own demise, as far as I'm concerned. If the Republicans have any common sense (now there's a big caveat), they will have to re-evaluate and change their methods and modify their positions. One of the biggest mandates is to break away from the religious right nutcases.

21. When I see a Black member of today's Republican Party
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 07:29 AM by olegramps
I can only shake my head in disbelief. The Republican Party has shamefully pandered to the racists Southerners since the passage of the Civil Rights Legislation by the Democrats under President Johnson. Johnson, being from Texas, knew it would have adverse affects and remarked that he had signed the death warrant of the Democrats in the South for years to come. Yes, the South was strongly Democratic solely because the despised Lincoln and anyone who supported Black rights. The didn't give a damn about the party as was demonstrated by the fact that every Democratic Senator and nearly every Democratic Representative was defeated in the next election cycle. Reagan was an out right racist and launched his campaign from Mississippi, the most racist hell hole in the country. Just like the racist Southern Republicans he knew and used all the racist code words. Yes, I will say once again that I can only shake my head when I see some Black Uncle Tom guy singing his praise of the Republican Party. I don't know how it affects other people, but for me they have zero credibility.

you've got that right. The GOP is the last bastion of the KKK types now. I think they only tolerate guys like this because they give cover to them so that, to the uninformed, they don't seem so bad.

35. Anybody listen to Howard Stern in the 90's?
Edited on Wed Nov-12-08 02:03 PM by WhoIsNumberNone
While I would never argue that the GOP get a lot of racists at their rallies, I think the real KKK types mostly don't vote. In the 90's I used to listen to Stern, and he would often have Daniel Carver (aka the KKK Guy) as a call in guest. Carver was (is?) a Grand Dragon or some such thing in Georgia if memory serves- and he stated that he never votes because he doesn't feel that either party represents him. Now, granted he's only one person, but it wouldn't surprise me if this mindset is pretty common among KKK types. Although when they do start paying attention to politics...
Remember when David Duke ran for Senate? What party was that again?

25. Just a side note on Reagan...
Not only did Reagan launch his campaign in Neshoba county, Mississippi, infamous as the site of the murders of three young civil rights workers in the 1960s, but he also criticized Carter for launching his campaign in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, calling it the birthplace of the KKK (it's not-- that honor belongs to Pulaski, Tennessee, I believe).

When I see a Black member of today's Republican Party, I can only shake my head in disbelief.

But if you were an enterprising black guy with no true talent or morals, which party would you hitch your wagon to??

The Democratic party which is swimming with brilliant, talented people of all colors and persuasion or the Republican party, otherwise known as La Fete Blanche?

Ron Christie might be crazy, but he ain't stupid. He knows that he'll get by in the Repub party because they desperately need to put a black/Asian/Hispanic person in a high position to try to tamp down the justified rumors that they are the political arm of the Aryan Resistance. He and the few others in his position know that they'll go much further in the Repub party than the Dem one, regardless of actual talent and ability. *Snort* Talk about affirmative action! :rofl:
