I'm not sure what to make of this, the Republican Party is truly at a weird crossroads. It seemed like these two didn't even understand what the other was talking about at all.

1. Pat forgot he was talking to another
republican and talked to him like he was a dem. So yes it did come across as an attack. It was pretty funny to watch what the party has become.

5. it was bizarre
One guy is saying that the party needs to move forward and the other was addressing something else and it was like they couldn't even get anywhere near the same page, lol.

4. yes that's what I thought too
I think it made him made when Pat told him to examine himself first. Which was weird of Pat to do, didn't make much sense.

12. I also heard "go to Canada"...but it was...
...his earlier comment about examining himself that was insulting. WTF was that all about?

16. yes! That's what I thought was insulting
I don't even understand what he was getting at? Paul was rightly saying the GOP needs to examine itself as a party, and Pat tells him that? Doesn't make much sense, unless Pat just believes in losing and being on the wrong side of history.

18. Chris jumped in immediately to...
...break up the potential skirmish. Matthews has worked with Pat for years and knows that he has a propencity for eating his toes. He should have stayed out of this one however and let the cards fall where they may

17. I thought I heard "go to Canada," but that makes no sense in the context
"Get a candidate" does, so I will guess that is what Buchanan said.

We'll have let Pat off the hook on that specific point, but he still doesn't get it.

21. You are right. I ran it back on my dvr
And it did sound like "go to Canada." I can see where the gentleman probably misunderstood. However, that was the worst discussion I had ever seen. Two men, supposedly addressing the same subject, yet going in two totally different directions. Weird.

10. Honestly, what the hell?
The strategist represents the GOPs schizophrenia. They want minority faces to project anti-minority policies.
Buchanan is a nut still, and he's stuck on what Nixon did in the 60s and 70s. NEWS FLASH, PAT! The 60s are over 40 years old. What worked in 68 and 72 won't work in 08.
McCain a liberal?

The GOP civil war continues. Keep posting videos. I look forward to the "Killing Fields".

19. Pat is definitely being silly
He's probably worse now at his age than he was back then. The GOP isn't necessarily against minorities or good policy that benefits minority and low-income people. Nixon, as a product of his time he was faced with civil rights issues and advancements, signed lots of legislation that was good for minorities. He signed many bills specific to helping American Indians, he even gave a speech in front of Congress about Indian issues, for example. And McGovern and Bob Dole put together the first legislation for food stamps which Nixon signed. Pat was around for all of this. He should know better. Pat has devolved into a wholly isolationist character, both in foreign policy and domestic policy. He's narrowed his idea of what the party should be so much that they have no way of reaching out to people like Mike Paul who want to assess the situation and see what they can do to get the GOP back on track.

11. Eating. It. Up.
The longer republicans like Pat bury their heads in the ground the longer it will take for their party to become relevant again. Paul seems like a fairly reasonable guy. Too bad the republican power structure will ignore people like him.

Anyone notice that Pat said the republicans lost because McCain was too liberal? LOVE it. Keep it up Pat.

20. LOL- it's Republican Ridiculism - they enjoy choking on their own vomit

For the strategist to attack Pat because he threw his line 'we need to examine ourselves' back at him 'why don't you examine yourself' and indicate it was a personal attack is silly. No doubt the Republican Party will continue to duke it out and this is the kind of stuff we will continue to see glimpses of going forward.

Love it. They're all good at attacks and the circular firing squad means damage will only be internal.

25. Pat was a belligerent jerk to Paul
and not a little racist.

He was a condescending, bullying jackass, and I think it was Pat's racist bias that made him fail to remember that Paul is a Republican strategist and assume Paul was a Democrat.

Also, when Paul spoke of the necessity for the Repubs to reach out to African Americans, Latinos and Asians, Buchanan stereotyped this constituency as 90% poor people who "look to government." That is straight up racism.

The "Examine YOURself" stuff was Pat being belligerent and straight up insane.

And OBTW, this isn't the first time Buchanan has bullied and been unbelievably rude to an African American commentator on an MSNBC show. A few months ago, he told a female African American Commentator on Dan Abram's show to "Shut up." Rachel Maddow, who was also a guest commentator in that
segment, admonished Pat for his rudeness and called him on his obvious bigotry.

MSNBC needs to take this Nazi apologist off the payroll.

27. Yeah, I wanted to slap him
when he said that immigrants want "rent supplements." As a Latina and a nurse, I've known thousands of immigrants in my life, and not one who asked for subsidized rent.

That female African American commentator Pat told to "shut up" was Michelle Bernard, who is the head of a coalition of conservative women. Pat's an all-around bigot and bully.

A couple of weeks ago, Chris Matthews defined Pat's role on the program. If I remember correctly, just before cutting to commercial, he said, "Pat's here for a reason. He's here to present a point of view that has been discredited."

I'd like to see him retire, I really would.

He does make it easy to tell the good guys from the bad guys, though.

30. sometimes Pat will say something that makes sense
like I remember hearing him rail against neocons and the Iraq War one time, and I remember him talking about Middle East policy a few times and he knew his stuff. And just when I started thinking he was ok he flipped out on some goofy rant. I was like: "Oh yeah, that's why I always thought Pat was unhinged." lol

29. Lesson learned
Pat stuck it to him... me, being a black man supports the dems... that black believes that GOP supports blacks... wrong.. they support them when its helpful to their party and that guy just got pie smashed in his face. This country is composed of multiple races and it's time that GOP understand that.

If they do what Mike Paul is saying, then the republicans are conceding that their original stance is in error. They are saying that they need to embrace more Democratic issues as their own. This is a hard pill to swallow for them and their base, the religious right.

Pat's view is, hey we didn't explain our stance clearly and the environment we were in screwed us over.

Honestly, i don't know what they can do.

I hope they stick with Pat's suggestion and Palin is their next canidate because that pretty much makes the democrats the majority for a long time.

But if they choose more center or center left stances, it would be a much harder fight going forward.

I have no clue how they will do this. Let's hope they don't have a clue either.
