Like I said, he plays 7 card stud poker. So do I though I prefer Hold'em. I've played in his Saturday night game before, along with Barry Greenstein (who I have known for years), Phil Ivey (who I don't know at all), Jerry Buss (who I don't know, but I understand he owns the LA Lakers), and a couple of guys that I don't even remember their names. I didn't like playing for high stakes, and so I only played a couple of times. Besides, I couldn't possibly play currently because I don't have that kind of money anymore. Even if I did, I wouldn't play poker with it. But I'm sure he would remember me and be gracious enough to introduce you.

All I said was that I noticed the person that I engaged with had only 116 posts.

I normally don't engage people with a low post count here, simply because there have been many recent people joining DU who are "disrupters" (or trolls). Note that I'm not accusing anyone here of being a troll, only the truth, they have a low post count.

And the other person is the one that did all of the "name calling" (one "scumbag"). I never called anyone a scumbag or any other name.

Unrelated? I hardly think so. We were discussing the object of this thread, one Larry Flynt, a person that I know in passing. Someone who I've had far more intelligent conversation with than what passes for conversation here ("scumbag", "why do you call him a scumbag?", "I know but I won't tell you", etc, etc.) Larry Flynt can cite you chapter and verse on the important free speech cases that have come before the supreme court. I doubt that many here can (I know that I don't have his depth of knowledge... and I studied Supreme Court cases at my university).

I hope that clears it up for you. You can think whatever you like, but your previous post (and now this one) was a violation of rules here.

You also seem to be confused about the rules regarding name calling. We can (and regularly do) engage in name-calling regarding public figures. Calling Flynt a scum-sucking racist male supremacist who has gotten rich off exploiting oppressed groups of people, for instance, is fair game.

It would only violate DU rules if he was a member here - it's name-calling against personal members that is off limits.

Flynt has been the subject of much criticism, especially from feminists. In a Hustler feature called "Dirty Pool" on January 1983, he depicted a woman being gang-raped on a pool table. A few months after these pictures were published, a woman was gang-raped on a pool table in New Bedford, Mass. Mr. Flynt's response to the crime was to publish a postcard of another nude woman on a pool table, this time with the inscription, "Greetings from New Bedford, Mass. The Portuguese Gang-Rape Capital of America."

December 1978, Hustler published photographs of naked children as young as three-years of age in sex scenes alongside an article, "Children, Sex and Society," advocating an end to age of consent, calling for acceptance of adult-child sex, and legalization of incest. In February 1975 in an article entitled "Adolescent Fantasy" an uncle is photographed sexually with his niece.

During her testimony, when asked how many times she was aggressed she responded 100 000. Tinsley had contributed 145 Hustler cartoons of violent child kidnapping and rape. <8> Upon his release from prison, Tinsley was rehired at Hustler."

to post that when I asked you a direct question about whether or not you objected to the manor in which Mr. Flynt made his money (publishing things that I don't care to read), you responded "no".

I won't defend his magazine or his taste in photos or whatever, however, so long as they are legal, I have no problem with his right to publish such stuff. If people don't like what he publishes, they have a perfect right to NOT BUY IT.

I really don't like either the fundies or the feminists telling me what I can read or watch. Nor would I want any other group defining for me what is "proper" and what isn't.

I have no problem with someone writing about (or even making sick cartoons about) child molestation. If you have objections to the writings of this person or that, you might want to reread the bible. It has a lot of stories of rape and sex with minors (by today's standards) and incest and a number of other "abominations" (some of which are not abominations in the bible, but rather moral and proper behavior). Shall we ban the bible as well? Since Catholic priests often study the bible, and lawsuit after lawsuit has proved that many of them also molest young children, shall we blame the bible for their illegal activities?
