3. not trusting doctors is dangerous

I think it has to do with an attitude of making profit on pain and suffering because this is not such a problem in EU where the profit motive is either absent or toned down. But not trusting doctors can result in very expensive medical bills. Those who don't show up on regular medical checkups have a much higher likelihood of developing a chronic condition. That's why african americans have a much higher occurence of chronic diseases because they don't trust doctors, and with good reason: they have been abused by doctors throughout history. The problem with Parenti's logic nevertheless is that today we have no better cure to cancer than chemo therapy. Perhaps this will change in the not too distant future with nano technology and gene sequencing.
