SNL took on Joe Biden this week. But why? (Commentary)

1. Because Biden has a great sense of humor and Sudeikis does a great impression
Besides, Biden deserves to have higher public visibility than he's gotten. Being caricatured on SNL is one of the best ways to do that.

And the first time he makes a gaffe, people will be ready for it, and it will be a matter for comedy, not outrage.

Like Fred Armisen with Barack Obama, Jason Sudeikis may not be able to imitate Biden's looks or vocal timbre, but he gets his sense of humor.

Being the "target" of comedy preemptively defuses a lot of public anger. It even worked for Sarah Palin, and she didn't deserve it at all.

7. Biden
No politician ever gains stature from being the butt of late night jokes. It would be one thing if Biden went on SNL and did something mildly amusing which showed his sense of humor. But he really doesn't need SNL to be making fun of him for having a big mouth.

3. I thought it was a lame sketch
SNL is either hit or miss. This wasn't their finest hour.

4. Yeah, that was a "miss"
Not particularly funny. I'm afraid this administration is not going to provide much material for SNL.

6. Obama Administration
NOTHING would make me happier than to see President Obama preside over 8 boring years of competency!

8. Ah yes, competency can be boring
and I'm ready for boring. Maybe we could actually focus on other aspects of our lives for a change!

5. Joe Lieberman (made the blunder) said it first by saying
that whoever was the next president would be tested by some disaster. He said it on Face the Nation. He went on and on to say that throughout history presidents have been put to the test just after they come into office. I am sick of hearing that Joe Biden get attacked as some a wing-nut giving a pessimistic statement. I expect SNL to do SOME research. Why are they on HIS case?

9. Biden
A lot of what gets on the show has to do with internal politics. It could be that Jason Sudekis lobbied hard to get on the air as Biden again. They may also be trying to turn Biden into a joke because Obama is so popular and relatively boring.

10. But I am still pissed off. Stewart, Colbert, Mahr..these people have some responsibility
to tell young (all) people the other side somewhat whether their purpose is to be spokespeople or not. SNL looses some hipness and awareness when they don't deal with some truth here. It's disappointing to say the least.

11. So, SNL should only parody the GOP?
I'm trying to figure out your larger point.

No, they should parody someone who's actually doing something. Biden's been in seclusion working on the transition (although it would have been awesome if they had done a bit where the Cheneys were showing them their new digs!

13. This is misleading as a post
I don't really frankly care about the commentators opinions, I would rather see the sketch, I have my own mind. You should post with "here is me talking over something with my opinions." just don't label the post as you did, it was a little annoying
