A Message to President-elect Obama Regarding Marriage Equality |
|
I've been trying to post this to change.gov but to no avail. Has anyone out there been able to post a video to that site yet?

Very cool! I was unable to attend the rally and march here in Seattle, so I really appreciate the video!

3. Believe me when I say that I'm typing this with sorrow in my heart |

But President elect Obama is not the man to talk to. There's a chance he supports gay marriage privately but he'll never support it publicly, especially in his first term. He'd lose a lot of support and his chances of getting reelected 2012 would be slim. This is one change he won't bring. :(

4. Who knows what smart people can do behind the scenes |

Just because Obama doesn't proclaim out loud, doesn't mean he won't be working behind the scenes to get things done appropriately. In a battle, sometimes it is not smart to go running towards the enemy camp with your gun raised, screaming - you can become a target yourself. Sometimes it is better to act covertly, quietly - much like special operations do during war. Scalpel vs. hatchet
From Obama:
"For the record, I opposed DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act, a Clinton-backed law that gives states the option of not recognizing another state's "gay marriage" licenses.) in 1996," Obama wrote then. "It should be repealed and I will vote for its repeal on the Senate floor. I will also oppose any proposal to amend the U.S. Constitution to ban gays and lesbians from marrying. This is an effort to demonize people for political advantage, and should be resisted ... When members of Congress passed DOMA, they were not interested in strengthening family values or protecting civil liberties. They were only interested in perpetuating division and affirming a wedge issue."

6. I think you're absolutely right about Obama working behind the scenes. |

I, too, believe this man is extremely intelligent and hopefully cunning. I didn't much care about a lot of things he said during the campaign. I just wanted him to say what he needed to to get elected. Then we shall see what happens.
