This is the full length 90 min. version of Bill Moyer's 1987 scathing critique of the criminal subterfuge carried out by the Executive Branch of the United States Government to carry out operations which are clearly contrary to the wishes and values of the American people. The ability to exercise this power with impunity is facilitated by the National Security Act of 1947. The thrust of the exposé is the Iran-Contra arms and drug-running operations which flooded the streets of our nation with crack cocaine. The significance of the documentary is probably greater today in 2007 than it was when it was made. We now have a situation in which these same forces have committed the most egregious terrorist attack on US soil and have declared a fraudulent so-called "War on Terror". The ruling regime in the US who have conducted the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, are now banging the war drum against Iran. We have the PATRIOT act which has stripped us of many of our basic civil rights justified by the terror of 9/11 which is their own doing.

10. The true meaning for these evil thugs

of trickle down is pissing on the constitution and the people of this country. Thank god for this lonely voice of truth hammering on the liberty bell while no one was truly listening and for the most part had their eyes, ears and mouths tightly covered. For those of us who lived through this horrific era and were listening and now forced to watch the repeat of it by the same folks who astonishingly went unpunished and so like Hitler rose again with the cheering of our media and elected reps. How can anyone keep from wretching as we all know in our hearts these thugs will again go unpunished and when they regroup will rise again to whittle away, unchallenged with a conspicuous battering ram at the constitution and freedoms that made this country great...I know I can't.

I have my own beat up old VHS copy from when the show first aired. Couldn't part with it. Never seen anything like it that summarized all the Iran Contra scandals so well.

Folks who don't understand why some of us adore Mike Malloy should watch this. He has been great for us when our heads were spinning as many of the old Iran Contra crooks reappeared. He'd be seething too and confirm their reappearance and remind us of their nefarious pasts. I'd see some of the worst offenders from Reagan and Bush I terms reappearing and do a double-take in outrage and there Mike would be, equally incensed.

Living through the Iran Contra years with "Morning in America" Reagan is one of the reasons I've felt compelled to write my legislators numerous letters demanding the impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

Recommended viewing for DUers under 35. This is what the glorious Reagan years were all about. Grandpa talking with charm and covertly breaking lots of international and domestic laws.
