24. We need to shed more light on Republicans as the party of the super
rich. Some people still think they are the "values" party, it is just pro-rich.

5. Bush did call the 'have mores' his base.
It's not like he was hiding it or anything. People just drank the kool aid and hoped they wouldn't wind up on the bottom. Most of them anyway.

If this doesn't wake people up I don't know what will.

31. That 2%
or so that benefited greatly from the Bushies....don't forget something like 20% think that they're part of that 2%.

CEO's vs Workers. Hmmmmmm...

Y'know, I'm sure CEOs should get paid a big salary, but 500% more? I mean the gap is ridiculous. Worker wages have stagnated, but prices of goods go up and the cost of living goes up...and CEO pay goes up...all by itself? The slowest worker on the assembly line can figure out there's something wrong here.

This country is being run as an Amway business model. Lots of suckers left holding the bag on unsellable merchandise, but a few lucky ones get a ponzi scheme of serfs to make them wealthy.

21. The funny thing is, if we stop buying from HD, and HD goes under, the CEO gets a fat paycheck
and then the workers get laid off. The CEO retires and buys a wonderful home in Malibu, CA while the workers and stockholders get screwed. His kids go to private universities and our kids go without. His mistress gets a new car and a diamond necklace, but the regular folks get a long line to wait in and bunch of paper work to fill out. Gotta love capitalism.

16. Presently, we are fighting a Home Despot (thank you, hobbit709 )
from coming to our community. We are a small rural town that already has a wonderful True Value (Farr's) hardware and home improvement store. It's locally run and the employees are knowledgable and extremely helpful.

Plus, we don't have to pay them to move here.

22. Well folks, I guess I'll drive a few miles more to get to Lowe's.
Home Depot has lost me as a customer. I try to do business with my local guys but they do not have a depth of stock so HD has been our destination. One more customer they have lost.

What a disgusting comment on the CEO's part. Shows you what they think of the core of their customers.

25. Considering what the standard business model has brought:
It's safe to say most CEOs who support Republicans for immediate gain are full of shit. The economy is in the tank because of this short (supply) sided business perspective. I feel like going to Home Depot and taking stuff off the shelves and leaving it on the floor so their employees have to put it back. Better yet, put things on a cart and leave them in different parts of the store. Make them spend their money on labor rather than donating to Republicans.
Done nation wide, this could put a dent in corporate profits and executive bonuses.

That place sucks because of many factors and to think they have knucklehead for a CEO only makes sense

28. I don't believe this is accurate...
...first of all Bernie Marcus, while one of the founders of Home Depot is no longer CEO (perhaps on the board, but no longer active in the management of the company), and while he may indeed have been talking to a gathering that supported Coleman, his comments were 'exclusively' directed at the union secret ballot thing - not just toward Democrats in general. Indeed, his co-founder, Arthur Blank, currently owner of the Atlanta Falcons, has contributed big bucks to Democratic candidates - and they're still speaking so far as I know. Fact is I doubt if there's a Business Roundtable or Chamber of Commerce member walking around that supports unions...never have been.

Now if you want a former Home Depot CEO to hate, hate Bob Nardelli, currently head of Chrysler. He was one of those Rangers for Bush that raised millions four years ago, openly criticized Democrats and ran Home Depot into the ground, all but destroying what Marcus and Blank had created before the board ran him off. I've got an idea, how about we save GM and Ford and let Chrysler go bankrupt?

30. Ok, let's go with this video title instead
"Bernie Marcus, while one of the founders of Home Depot is no longer CEO (perhaps on the board, but no longer active in the management of the company), and while he may indeed have been talking to a gathering that supported Coleman, his comments were 'exclusively' directed at the union secret ballot thing - not just toward Democrats in general."

Sure, it doesn't roll off the tongue but it *is* more accurate.

34. Thank You for accuracy

I gave up on DU having any preponderance of accuracy some time ago

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122705706314639537.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

>>>>>>>>>>>>And hear the lamentations of the billionaires. "This is the demise of a civilization," moaned Bernie Marcus, cofounder and former CEO of The Home Depot, during an Oct. 17 conference call about card check. "This is how a civilization disappears. I'm sitting here as an elder statesman, and I'm watching this happen, and I don't believe it."

Mr. Marcus sketched out the doomsday scenario for his listeners, with unions going after what he called the "low hanging fruit" and proceeding to organize workers in industry after industry. He had taken it upon himself to notify the nation's CEOs of the danger, but they were not yet grabbing their guns. "This is as important as anything that's ever happened to these companies. And they're not reacting, and they're not fighting. The old time fighters are gone."

But in the class war, as in the real deal, there are always ways of motivating the yellow. "If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs."<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Edited on Tue Nov-25-08 04:44 PM by ihavenobias
There's not all that much innacuracy in this clip. A founder and former CEO of Home Depot bashed other execs for not supporting Repubs.

Trying to read into the video title is a bit much. If anything, maybe the *reaction* to the video was overboard at times as opposed to the video itself.

At any rate, I gave up on (some at) DU WRT not taking certain things too seriously some time ago. Some people just love to nitpick and complain. I'm not saying anything, I'm just sayin'.
