Screamers (2006)

The movie Screamers is a documentary/rockumentary that focuses on the Armenian Genocide of 1915, but also points out the atrocities that have occurred in other genocides through the present. Director Carla Garapedian follows System of a Down, an American rock band with Armenian ancestry, on their tour through the U.S. and Europe. On their tour, System of a Down educates their audience of the horrors of the past. The Armenian Genocide today, is still not recognized by the Turkish government, its perpetrators. On April 24th, the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, System of a Down's front man Serj Tankian made his message clear. On stage before the screaming fans, he shouts, "Tonight is not just the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, it's also time to break down all the walls of hypocrisy around the world with all genocides known and unknown, accepted or not accepted. It's time to make the Turkish government... to pay for their f***ing crime!" SOAD then proceeded to play their song P.L.U.C.K., which stands for Politically Lying Unholy Cowardly Killers (referring of course to the Turkish government). Half of the film is concert footage from SOAD's tour, and the other half is some very graphic footage of genocide, and interviews from researchers, survivors, etc. Most notable of these is Serj Tankian's grandfather, one of the few living survivors of the Armenian Genocide. In addition to the fact that the Armenian Genocide is still denied by the Turks today, another reason that this film is so important, is that right now there is genocide occurring in Darfur. Some of the images in Screamers are very graphic, and hard to watch, however, it is necessary that people be exposed to the truth. This is an incredibly powerful and important film. A lot of people haven't heard of this film because of it's limited release and exposure. It's a real shame because it really is an amazing film. It also helps a lot if you're a System of a Down fan.

thank you so much

I bought the album Toxicity on September 11, 2001, I think. Was that the day it was released? Wikipedia says it was the top album that week, so was it the week before?

I was driving around northern New Jersey listening to it a lot. I worked in Secaucus and I looked at the giant column of smoke over Manhattan for a week. I was in my house with my father and he said "go to work" so I did, but the roads were closed. The next day he said "go to work" and I received a call from a woman in Manhattan who was completely furious that we, Barnesandnoble.com, could not deliver her book with the "Same Day to Manhattan" service. She just would not get it. If it weren't for Terril, the quality manager on the floor, I might have been trying to please her all day - even tough I knew I couldn't convince any of the drivers to go over the Tappanzee Bridge to get her the exact book she needed for an "important presentation" she had that day.

I have many stories about things that have happened in my family, and I have been locked in the death chambbe in Elmina Castle in Ghana in 1995. I have heard the king of the Mensah Village, at the spot in the river where the slaves took their last baths before going into the caste and where children have no other place to play soccer except on the mass graves there. I have been to the courthouse in Morant Bay, Jamaica where Paul Bogle led a revolt against the Colonialist masters.

If you look at my Daily Kos and some of my DU posts in the past few weeks, you will see how I can identify with this movie so , so much. The first words of this video are so important:

A screamer is somebody whose defenses and alibis are melted away and they actually process what a genocide is without defense, without guile, and when you do that, when you actually allow it all in, there is no other alternative than to go up to people and say "the sky is falling, the sky is falling."

This is a picture of me from three weeks ago, when I heard amazing grace at a Veteran's Day ceremony for the first time since my father -- a veteran and a James E. Fellowship Award winning Scoutmaster who taught me many, many things -- died alone in a room on the other side of the country, and no one has convinced me, or my Aunt, that the cause of death that is still on his death certificate is a valid cause of death. Paging Dr. Fahn! Paging Dr. Fahn!

But anyway, this is the picture of how happy I am after I heard Amazing Grace on the bagpipes three weeks ago:

I know for a fact that I have some answers. Not all of them, but the ones I know about have so far been completely ignored. Thank you for posting this film.

I want to help you as much, or more than I want your help.

5. Wake up
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little (makeup)
Grab a brush and put a little
Hide the scars to fade away the (shakeup)
Hide the scars to fade away the
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable
You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
You wanted to
I don't think you trust
In, my, self righteous suicide
I, cry, when angels deserve to die, DIE
Wake up
Grab a brush and put a little (makeup)
Grab a brush and put a little
Hide the scars to fade away the (shakeup)
Hide the scars to fade away the
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
Here you go create another fable
You wanted to
Grab a brush and put a little makeup
You wanted to
Hide the scars to fade away the shakeup
You wanted to
Why'd you leave the keys upon the table?
You wanted to
I don't think you trust
In, my, self righteous suicide
I, cry, when angels deserve to die
In, my, self righteous suicide
I, cry, when angels deserve to die

Father, father, father, father

Father into your hands, I commend my spirit
Father into your hands
why have you forsaken me
In your eyes forsaken me
In your thoughts forsaken me
In your heart forsaken, me oh
Trust in my self righteous suicide
I, cry, when angels deserve to die
In my self righteous suicide
I, cry, when angels deserve to die

6. what an appalling event. Just so that you know, they say that Karl
Rove fights this war every day. Apparently he is of Armenian descent. Its one of his one or two true obsessions.

10. first of all, your tone sucks. I just relayed something I read in an
article a few years ago. I don't give a damn about how much you work for it. Hows that for a specific answer.

Geez. You can't tell anything to anyone around here without someone getting pissy.
