This was from 1985. I was a senior in college that year and saw Bruce in concert. I guess I was one of the "young people in the audience" he was talking to here. My how time flies. 1985. 2002. They both seem like yesterday, though so much bad shit has gone down since both of those dates that it blows the mind.

4. I was there

I was in the audience the night this was taped. Bruce was one of the few who were talking about such things then. Reagan had just won a landslide victory for a second term, the cold war threatened the planet with total nuclear annhilation at any given moment, and being progressive was amazingly unpopular in my high school.

This song, performed at the last concert of the Born in the U.S.A. tour, was a breath of fresh air.
