1. Why Do Republican's Hate The Arts?

they hate that we are going to show them how running the country should be done?

Remember this, http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2009/02/house-republica.html">"House Republicans promise Taliban insurgent tactics"?

A Freudian slip...?

9. Because they hate everything and everyone - even, obviously, themselves.

10. Because the arts teach people to think creatively
and consider different perspectives. Can't have any of that now, can we. ;)

13. It also counters "Consumerism"
we vastly underfund arts (look at what even Saddam did in that respect) and the end result of a lively arts community is that it counters consumerism.

NPR actually had someone on a few weeks ago who came out and said it.

Instead of people thinking they "What do I want to GET today?" they think "What do I want to DO today?" a fundamental shift that arts funding is the genesis of.

18. Because if
it doesn't blow something up, kill brown people, enrich their contributors, divide the country, poison the environment, vilify progressives and gays or throw people in jail they are against it.

Arts, shmarts, nothing but librul gay communists except Charlton Heston, John Wayne and Chuck Norris of course.

19. Because the arts are dominated by Liberals who put out messages against them--
The Arts are Free Speech, and Republicans don't like anything to do with free speech. The arts and science are education, and as someone else said, education makes poor people think, realize they're being abused and used, and not only fight back, but know how to fight back. An uneducated person can't fight big business. A highly educated group of people can.

6. Well done.
I like Rep. Obey's website, too. He's got the entire bill posted along with the economic analysis.

But the reTHUGs have been trying to claim that they never had a chance to read the bill...

It's as if reTHUGs are trying to insinuate that Dems pulled midnight switcheroos like they did so many times (remember the Patriot Act?). Projecting again-- even though it doesn't work anymore on anyone but their permanent brain-dead 20%.

11. Ecomomic chaos after eight years of Rep. rule.
The economy is in such trouble that, even with passage of this package, unemployment rates are expected to rise to between eight and nine percent this year. Without this package, we are warned that unemployment could explode to near eleven percent. With passage of this package, we will face a large deficit for years to come. Without it, those deficits will be devastating and we face the risk of economic chaos. Tough choices have been made in this legislation and fiscal discipline will demand more tough choices in years to come.

the portion of the speech beginning at 6:25 and on through the end of the speech. That part was pure win and awesome. :patriot: K&R

on the news cycles, and sent far and wide. Someone who actually read the bill and can explain it in detail...it's quite refreshing. A great big K/R for this.

ETA: I can't get over those republican blowhards who admitted to not ever reading the damned bill. Unbelieveable.

Peace:thumbsup:
