5. Obama. Shelby said that Obama is not qualified to be president because
he has not seen his birth certificate. So now a senator is running with the stupid email story.

9. The Base
Shelby is playing to his racist, party first, traitorous base. Nothing more.

3. Hmmm, is Shelby angling for the support of "birther" idiots on the Right?
I always encourage those monkeys to waste their time.

4. I think when he made that comment
he meant that even though he hasn't seen the certificate personally, Obama is the president so he was born in the United States. He just said it in an inarticulate manner. I seriously doubt that at this point he would try to stir up an idea that only fringe radicals have tried to make an issue of.

6. Disagree. When a US senator makes the accusation it will get a lot of media
attention. That's what Shelby is doing and he knows what he is doing. Look for more senators and house members to start singing along.

7. it makes no sense at all to do it
I'd be surprised if any senators at all do it, not more than a couple House members at most. He didn't make any accusation at all, the very worst he did was imply something. There is absolutely no benefit in any way for him to dredge this up, the only media he's really gotten on it hasn't been positive and nobody has taken it seriously. He's not looking for any attention right now, he's trying to get it to go away. I don't think he meant it the way it sounded, but either way, he certainly didn't make an accusation.

10. I have yet to see anything that shows that he is trying to get it to go away.

11. He made a statement
saying he believed the matter was thoroughly examined. You didn't see that?

A guy at the meeting said when Shelby was asked the question it seemed like he was uncomfortable and didn't even want to go there on the topic and said that even though he didn't see the birth certificate it was certified in Hawaii. One other person there said Shelby answered the question by saying that if somebody, as Obama was, was born in Hawaii it's legal. Nobody there says that he ever once said that Obama wasn't a citizen, a few have corroborated that he said he hadn't seen the birth certificate but that it was certified. It's a fake controversy, the sort of thing Republicans drum up on Dems, we should be better than this.

8. They will create a cottage industry on this one BS "issue" just like they did with Clinton...
and "not saluting" the Marine guards
and the drug running air strip in Arkansas
etc.
