3. When politicians threaten to do something about special interests groups...

...said groups threaten to give money to your opponents campaign next election. After all, your not supposed to tell the voters it's their fault that the economy, wages and our civil liberties are fucked, you're supposed to blame the other political party for causing all those problems. Kind of like how the democratic congress complained about Bush's budget yet they're the ones voted for it.
