2. While I am not a David Brooks fan,
he nailed this. I am only surprised that he was so candid. "Nihilism," indeed.

Wonder when he will be "forced" to backtrack.

4. Give it a few hours after the comedian Rush, Innsannity, and
Billo rake him over the coals for saying such a thing about their good ole boy Bobby Jindal. He'll be sucking up to them and their dittohead followers by about 10:00 am EST.

And they've been singing Bobby Boy's praises almost as much as those of their beloved Seerah.... Next up?

10. In particular, all the southern Governors who opposed
the stimulus package are a disaster. Our lame Governor, Rick Perry is in trouble. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who is a moderate, is leading this chump in a recent polls. He nor Bush is loved in this State. Check it out!

Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 07:59 AM by daninthemoon
farcical inane same old tired rw cliche speech. That was one of the most bizarre speeches ever, and to make that speech then, in the middle of this republican made mess, and right after that astounding speech by President Obama, that was just dumb ass planning on the repub leadership. One thing about rethugs, they are predictable. Jindall is done, who's next?

kissing his ass if his skin was a few shades lighter. Once they accept bigotry as one of their prime causes the Jindals and Steeles will have to go elsewhere.

19. Brooks is often very good
Then the next day he is very bad. He's odd like that. He's a pretty fair Republican and he also has issues with the dumbing down of the whole party. He's been mad about the lack of policy depth and fresh ideas for awhile.

29. Crosspost: On Rush Limbaugh's defense of Jindal
Rush is even isolated from Freeperville right now. I guess somebody had to do it.

First of all, does Rush know of another fellow named Barack Obama who said something last night? The liar and idiot that Rush was describing was definitely not the President of the United States who goes by that name.

Now, frankly, I don't have any more use for "style" than Rush has. We got style from Ronald Reagan, who first conjured up the voodoo economics that destroyed the American middle class. So, I agree with Rush as far as that goes; it doesn't count for much. Nevertheless, I thought Governor Jindal's response was pathetic. It is pathetic to keep insisting that voodoo economics will get us out the very mess that, after nearly 30 years, it got us into and got us into predictably. That is what Governor Jindal was proposing. Before I listened to Rachel Maddow's "speechless" assessmewnt of Governor Jindal's response, I was wondering how he could possibly put a good face on the government response to Hurricane Katrina. That was a good example of government failure, but it is a failure that is the exception and not the rule. It is failure brought on by voodoo economics which makes tax cut for the rich a priority so that they can employ people and their wealth can trickle down to the unwashed masses, unless they abolish social security, reduce wages and outsource jobs to twelve-year-old workers in Asia and Latin America. It also doesn't help that the government, having insufficient revenue, pretends that it has nothing to do. I guess that aging infrastructure was going to be repaired as magically as budgets would be balanced with no one paying taxes. We can live with roads that have potholes, with bridges that fall into the river at rush hour and levies that collapse in a storm.

Of course, Rush can his minions can boast no laws were broken. That's because the Republicans repealed them all first.

To put it bluntly to Rush and Governor Jindal: do-nothing government is the problem, not the solution.

Conservative columnist David Brooks, a wiser man than Rush Limbaugh, knows that the real problem with Governor Jindal's response last night was not not stylistic, but substantial. He knows that nobody but Rush and his dittoheads will vote for Jindal or Sarah Palin or which ever one of those witchdoctors in the GOP becomes the sacrificial lamb laid at the altar of President Obama's new New Deal in 2012 that will exorcise the chaos brought by Reagan, Bush and voodoo. Even if it doesn't work as well as we would like, Obama and his team would have to work pretty hard to make it fail like voodoo economics. Mr. Brooks knows that, too.

Jindal in 2012? Palin for President? Come on, Rush, at least find somebody of the stature of Alf Landon to serve as a sacrificial lamb.

More than being pathetic, Governor Jindal's response shows how the situation is very unfortunate. There needs to be an opposition party to the Democrats, and right now the GOP isn't adequate. Even as a Democrat, I know we need an opposition party that will oppose President Obama's programs with new ideas, not the old ones with a proven track record of abject failure.

The Republicans won't become the conservative opposition of the future as long as they're scared of a right wing moron like Rush Limbaugh today. What's really too bad is that mild-mannered, reasonable David Brooks can't scare Republicans in Congress more than the course and rash demagogue with the golden mike.

32. I think this is just one large step to fracturing what used to be the Republican Party
Brooks will part of one party and Rush part of another by 2012. No way this will be a two-party race in 2012 and conservatives or those who call themselves conservatives will have to choose a party by then. Or so I predict.
