2. It hasn't yet, it never will. What the fuck is wrong with these idiots.
It's like hearing a kid say "If I keep throwing this rock into the air, one day it won't fall down." "If we keep cutting taxes, one day it will actually raise revenues." "If we keep looking under the bed, one day there will be a monster."

Good GOD these are stupid people.

3. Tax cuts create revenue. Ok, I'll buy that. But please explain to me how...
...this translates to the creation of jobs.

4. No, creating jobs will increase tax revenue
then the govt will be able to begin to pay down the huge deficit that monkey boy and company ran up. Geesh even I know that and all I have is a high school education and a few college courses.

5. It's called the Laffer Curve.
Appropriately. And it costs more than it makes in revenue.

12. I get the idea
There is a certain point where the incentive to earn money is squashed, but this graphic

clearly shows Ireland, Canada and the UK all at around 3.5% of GDP from corporate taxes while have rates of around 12%, 22% & 27%
and also shows Norway, Luxembourg, the UK and Germany all with tax rates in the 20% to 25% but pulling in between 1.5% and 10% of their GDP from corporate taxes.

18. I think all that graph shows is that while US tax rates are nominally high,
there are many loopholes that allow them to pay much less in taxes (compared to the GDP).

And who drew that fucking curve? You could just as easily draw a straight line through that data - ridiculous. I think all it shows is that Norway actually MAKES its corporations pay taxes, unlike the US, where they have games the system.

6. Then why didn't it work? It's been going on for 8 years.
Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 05:08 PM by The_Casual_Observer
The only revenues it raises are the bank accounts of rich guys.

7. This snake oil is past its 'best if used by' date.
And for that matter, it started out rancid, anyway.

If such snake oil had to pass FDA approval, it would be found neither safe nor effective.

9. Bat crap carzy or lying
By the Republican standard eliminating taxes increases revenue, therefore a zero tax rate will have the treasury awash in cash. What happened to all those jobs Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy were supposed to create? They got shipped off shore with the corporate profits to circulate in someone else's economy. The real lunacy is that they're still playing the same hand after being rebuked at the polls. Their solid 17% won't abandon them, but that won't win elections. They're just free ride republicans passing the bills on to the next generation(s).

14. Note to country: The ONLY people compaining of tax increase are the very rich.
The ONLY tax increase is on those earning over a quarter of a million dollars every year. Everyone else gets a tax cut which, the Republics like to point out, increases spending and revenues.

So, if you see someone on TV complaining about a tax increase, don't forget that they are VERY wealthy and have enjoyed decades of repeated tax cuts. Now, at the first increase and during a hard economy, they complain.

Note: not all wealthy people are hypocrites like this. It's easy to pick out the hypocrite rich snobs though - they call themselves Republics.

Peace

16. Jeeze!
Whatever she's on, don't send me any. Mandatory drug testing with negative results as a condition of continuing employment in Congress sounds about right to me. There's no way Kay would pass anymore than George would have passed his flight physical back in '72.
