He really said nothing ... "selling the sizzle with the steak"

BTW He really seems like the type that has been put inside of a locker @ school a time or two.

BTW part 2 how can you have respect for the Constitution when you have the Government interfere
w/ a Women's right of choice in his respect for life point?

6. Wow. The kid said so little ...
... but probably as much as any other dim attendant at this gathering. And, as with all Conservatives, we are supposed to listen only to what he promises as the results of his theories, and ignore all historical evidence demonstrating Conservatism as an elitist marketing scheme to gather power and wealth amongst a few, at the expense of the many.

Gotta love that he was followed, literally, by another cheerleader.

what does that mean???? It's an ideology of principles standing up for peoples rights? What about the right to marry who you want? Have choice when it comes to your own body or be able to smoke a doobie when you get home?

Now that's what "I'm" talking about!

39. It's not just you. I quoted a Lyric from the Simpsons in my comment below
The kid is an actor that seems to think that prepared scripts actually mean something when spoken by a vacuous parrot. You know, like Reagan, but at least Reagan was old enough to project an image of "The Wise Old Man". Unfortunately, we now know that he was pre alzheimers many years before he actully succumbed.

I'm sure that Reagan actually made some decisions, but only that he forgot all about them a few hours later while the neo-con crooks scurried off and ran with them.

24. From his bio...
He's obviously bright, but doesn't stand a chance....

Jonathan Krohn is a 13 year-old home schooled young man who has been performing on stage since he was eight. Inside Edition’s Debora Norville named him “Atlanta’s Most Talented Child” in 2006. Jonathan has had 3 call-backs for the Broadway part of Michael Banks in Mary Poppins.

<snip

He has played the cello since he was 4 and has recently taken up the Banjo. He is active at his church, Peachtree Corners Baptist, and in his spare time he is playing with his dog Spot, and listening to anything political. He loves talk radio. He has also taken up golf in hopes to play with his favorite politicians.

More at his website.

28. I guess "joe the plumber" must be stretched a little thin....
...now they'll bring out some indoctrinated little IQ stick to all stand behind. Guess that makes sense. "joe" is dumber than a rock, so this little dweeb can make up for his negative IQ with his higher one.

I listened hard...but I'm not sure he said anything...other than babble and promote his "13 yr old advice" to the grand obstructionist party morons. So sad...so very sad. There really needs to be a NEW party. I'd suggest looking to Ron Paul as a possible direction for the opposition party. Wouldn't it be something to have two parties looking out for AMERICA?? Granted, a lot of Ron Paul is just about as crazy...the anti-government involvement in helping the citizens of the nation, but at least he doesn't scare me as much as these idiots and their confused platform.

31. At least among the posters here, you're not completely dismissing the young man
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 02:53 PM by Jack Rabbit
OK, he's got more on the ball than Joe the Plumber. I was thinking he's brighter and better spoken than Rush Limbaugh.

Jonathan deserves some respect. Let us complement the young man with a brief and partial critique of his brief remarks.

He named four principles of conservatism: Respect for the Constitution, respect for life, less government and personal responsibility. During the last eight years "conservatives" showed respect for the Constitution with signing statements, the suspension of Habeas Corpus, the declaration that an American citizen could be locked up with the key thrown away without due process of law on the word of the president alone, and trashing of the Fourth Amendment. Respect for life was demonstrated with an unnecessary war the premises of which were fabrications from our "conservative" leaders. Of course, to implement such repressive policies and a war, government had to grow, not shrink. Finally, "conservatives" were perfectly willing to blame the victims of Hurricane Katrina for not being personally responsible enough to leave the area or even to personally afford the means to do so, were and continue to be willing to blame America's unemployed for demanding higher wages and health care for the outsourcing of their jobs, and are now blaming the American people for the credit binge of the last several years, they do this as a way of denying that they, as "conservatives", are responsible for wasteful wars waged with borrowed money or outmoded cold war military hardware being manufactured and purchased with borrowed money -- not to mention the absence of any personal responsibility of "conservative" political appointees for cronyism, graft, just plain corruption and lawlessness in the federal government. And for not borrowing money (or -- horror of horrors -- raising the revenue through taxation) to fix the levies in New Orleans for thirty years.

One of the biggest problems with the GOP is that there is and has never been an apparent conservative ideology behind the so-called "conservative" movement that put power in the hands of Republicans in all three branches of government. That which was enumerated in the last paragraph reflects an ideology of right wing authoritarianism, an apology for the kind of tyranny against which the Americans and French revolted in the Age of Enlightenment.

Let us hope that young Jonathan, as he grows, also becomes wise enough to know that no ideology is so sacred that it should not be bent or even discarded when it calls for a course action that would clearly make a bad situation worse. Let us hope that, while not necessarily abandoning his principles altogether, what it is about "conservative" ideology that helped make George W. Bush the worst president in American history and how the very people in that room heaping praise on the bright youngster challenged the patriotism and tried to marginalize any one who dared to suggest that Bush was wrong and responsible for the mess he made.

36. Educational level of Republicans
It's not always a trend but why do Republicans choose people with such educational levels to be their symbols? McCain, almost last in class in the Naval Academy. Palin, graduated from five different schools. Joe the Plumber--a plumber. and nowa a home schooled 13 year old. And there's Rush Limbaugh....

Of course it's not a trend--Bush--with a graduate degree (but if you view him from a different light, his educational level could be just above Palin's). Bobby Jindal is not in the trend of course...

But why do thse people spring up to be symbols of the right and suddenly get popularity as if they are the best leaders? Do the average right wingers actually believe in them or are they poisoned with a certain mindset.

He grew up, took drugs, and ultimately confessed his sins as a phony little Elmer Gantry who was pushed into it by his parents. Fascinating story.

This boy is really too young to have formed any of his own opinions about politics and the world in general. He's just imitating Rush or his parents. Just a little actor.

For one thing, its well known that the GOP has been able to promote its policies as an extension of its values. For a more in depth reading of it look up anything by George Lakoff or read the book 'being right is not enough' by Paul Waldman. This kid is about 20 years late.

Furthermore his views are conservatives stand for

respect for the constitution
respect for life
less government
personal responsibility

What the GOP's true core principles are are

Authoritarianism and a leader/follower relationship
Cultural and social heirarchies which place one race/gender/lifestyle as above the others
Plutocracy

If you examine what the GOP claims it stands for, you can see traces of the true GOP principles in their actions.

Respect for life is a metaphor for controlling a woman's body and an extension of cultural heirarchies and authoritarianism. Personal responsibility and less government is a metaphor for letting poor people, blacks and latinos dangle in the wind and fend for themselves (but never wealthy white people, they need all the gov help they can get). Respect for the constitution is authoritarianism (obedience to what they see as an authoritative document, despite the fact that the GOP tramples the constitution at will).

This kid has no idea what the GOP really stands for. His sugar coated core principles are just extension of the ugly, real core principles.
