This was the best part of yesterday. Wexler lays it all out and tears it apart.

WHO PUT HIM ON THE LIST?

Great stuff.

5. Gonzo punched his ticket
He didn't give up anyone, let alone Rove's, name. Gonzo is set for life as long as he doesn't let anyone inside the palace.

As NPR stated the other day if Gonzo were to leave the confirmation hearing would deal with Gitmo and eavesdropping etc. and they just can't have that.

Jon Stewart compared it to the scene in "Goodfellas" when Henry Hill gets arrested and is sure that Dinero is going to rip him a new one. Dinero shows up and says "Hey you got pinched we all get pinched what's important is that you didn't tell 'em nothing"

same thing

13. He ALWAYS looks like he's smirking!!!!
He looks like a smurf, not an Attorney General. Smurfs have more personality though. He must have clicked the "No Emoticons" option.

Who would have thought that Cspan would be more exciting than mainstream television?

18. I don't think he's smirking because he thinks he's getting away with something...
I think he's smirking because he's a simpleton.

4. Everyone in Bushco needs a grilling much more severe than this
and its a beautiful thing to see the beginning of the end finally start for these treasonous unpatriotic swine!

I was hoping that someone would then go on to rebut Gonzales' claim that he doesn't know anything because he hasn't been able to speak to other "fact" witnesses with a question along the following lines:

"You say that you don't have the answer to my question as to who put the names on the list, because as a fact witness, you have chosen to recuse yourself from this investigation. Fine. However, when you signed off on the list of U.S. Attorneys to be terminated, weren't you aware then of exactly who was involved in putting those names on the list? If so, please share that name or those names with us now. If not, please explain why you signed off on the firings of eight U.S. Attorneys without knowing or inquiring into whose recommendations were involved in placing those names on the list."

Gonzales: I've said that I take full responsibility for what happened --

"Fine. Were you aware at the time as to whose recommendation went into placing those names on the list."

Gonzales: I relied on Mr. Sampson --

"Who did Mr. Sampson rely on - specifically - not the generic "senior leadership."

Gonzales: "I... I...I've said that I take full responsibility...."

"Essentially, you are admitting that at the time you signed off on the firings, you simply signed a sheet of paper that Kyle Sampson put in front of you with no questions asked. Is that fair to say?"

Gonzales: I relied on Mr. Sampson --

"*You* were sworn in as Attorney General, not Mr. Sampson. The American people are relying upon you, not Mr. Sampson, to run the Department of Justice. You say that you relied upon Mr. Sampson, and that you signed off on what he presented to you with no questions asked. Mr. Sampson has admitted he acted in bad faith and has resigned. As you have taken full responsibility for his bad judgment and inappropriate actions while he was employed in the DoJ, why is it that you feel you should remain at the Department of Justice while he has resigned."

Okay, that was more than I intended to write, but once you get started....

That was a great exhibition by Wexler.

You nailed it too

9. Rove
Rove runs the whole show-that is why everything is so horribly screwed up and why everything is about politics.

They "acheived" their three main goals
1.empty the treasury
2.raid the public trusts
3.invade Iraq

the rest is just "winning" each news cycle.

12. We need to go after the money.
I'm very disappointed that Ken Lay's beneficiaries are going to benefit from the stolen booty. Who knows how Dick Cheney plans to get away with it?

Until we stop glorifying rich people, or, at least, allow the right-wingers to protect the rich from facing tough questions, this usurpation will continue.

I laugh thinking about Joe Six Pack in his broken down Chevy truck growling, "DITTO!" every time 23 million dollar Rush Limbaugh rails against the Liberals for making this an issue against rich people.

15. Sleazy, greazy little bastard
Gonazales is such a lying little POS, and I would give an awful lot to smack that shit-eating smirk off his face.

Wexler, as usual, was awesome. He first came to my attention during the Clinton Impeachment hearings. He seemed to be the only one with enough balls to point out, on the record, how dishonest and disengenuous that whole farce was, and totally won my respect way back then. Wexler's definitely one of the good guys.

Great video clip!

19. Perhaps I was hallucinating, but did anyone see the giant elephant balloon
floating in the room during this part, with ROVE, ROVE, ROVE written all over it.

I think it was an elephant, maybe a pig? It was pink, of that I'm sure ....

20. Q: Do you run the DoJ? A: "Yes, I DID." Did I hear that correctly??
Is Gonzales no longer running the DoJ? If so, who is?

I guess being a material witness to the past operations of the DoJ recuses him from running the DoJ, but he can't recall that perhaps.

Listen carefully near the end, with about a quarter minute left to play. It's not real clear.

24. The staffers behind Wexler are smiling. It's so ridiculous.
It's tragic and funny at the same time.

I wish one of these congresscritters would threaten witnesses with Contempt of Congress. And SAY the word CONTEMPT.
