Baosteel Will Recycle World Trade Center Debris

A shipment of scrap steel from New York's collapsed World Trade Center will arrive in Shanghai tomorrow, according to media reports. The steel was bought by Shanghai Baosteel Group Corp. and several other domestic mills, which are always eager to buy scrap metal.

Baosteel Group, the nation's largest steel firm, has purchased 50,000 tons of the scrap steel from "Ground Zero," the ruins of the September 11 terrorist attack, at no more than US$120 each ton, according to yesterday's Beijing Youth Daily.

.....

New York authorities' decision to ship the twin towers' scrap to recyclers has raised the anger of victims' families and some engineers who believe the massive girders should be further examined to help determine how the towers collapsed.

But New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg insisted there are better ways to study the tragedy of September 11.

50. I think that terrorists brought down the buildings, too. The question that
still remains to this day is who those "terrorists" are. All of the "conspiracy theories" could have been circumvented if a real criminal investigation had been allowed, but none was. On top of all of the hundreds and hundreds of unanswered questions regarding the events on 9/11, the question of why no investigation was allowed has to be a primary one.

25. Who said anything about a government murder plot?
I know I didn't. You make my case for me -- you reject what is obvious (controlled demolition) because you simply cannot accept what you believe it would have to mean, namely, inside job, just too painful, which is classic denial.

If someone were to suddenly produce widely accepted evidence demonstrating how al Qaeda managed to gain access and rig all three towers with explosives for controlled demolition, unbeknown to authorities, you'd immediately accept controlled demolition as the cause of collapse and probably claim you suspected it all along.

41. Me too! But two things happened that summer
Edited on Mon May-14-07 08:52 PM by truedelphi
One was my catching hours of the 9/11 Commission on C Span - hours of testimony so ludicrous that at times I could barely contain my alternating contempt and hilarious hysteria. (imagine a defense agency that has received over 30 trillion dollars to prepare for such an attack - and then Hear one of their senior people say "as the plane that eventually hit the Pentagon came towards the Washington DC area - We couldn't contact Andrews Air Force base because only the Secret Service has the base's phone numbers." And the panel of Commissioners would not even bat an eyelash.)

The second thing was a friend of mine coming over to my house to demonstrate on my computer the various clips of WTC 7 falling. He came over every other day for a week. Showed me how it fell. Then made me compare the way it fell to the way that the Towers fell.

Over and over again. I did not want to believe it.

...open my mind and grudgingly go do some friggin homework -- the 9-11 Commission was just SO non-credible. And I had assumed the Commission would do it's job because I'd always had high regard for Lee Hamilton and figured he wouldn't go along with any kind of whitewash -- what a huge disappointment he's been.

48. The Bridge Collaspe
What do you think about the bridge that recently collasped in California? Did that bridge not collaspe just do to heat from an exploded tanker? I am not trying to call you a tinfoiler in that I to at one point question how and why the tower fell. However, since the bridge in California recently collasped I am a little less willing to question the fall. It seems that the bridge gave some support to the idea that heat can weaken steel and concrete columns. So, what is your opinion of the bridge collaspe in California. Would you say bridges are different than a tall building?

Edited on Tue May-15-07 12:00 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...or that it didn't figure prominently in the bridge collapse you're referring to, but I would think this is something of an apples and oranges comparison.

Examining the way those towers came down at near free-fall speed, and seeing how they were literally pulverized, with debris shooting both outward and upward, and seeing the telltale white smoke signature of squibs (blasting caps, or initiators, used in the demolition industry to set off high explosives) preceding the crumbling structure(s) as it/they fell, all adds up, overwhelmingly, to controlled demolition -- LOOK at the videos -- res ipsa loquitur: "the thing speaks for itself."

BTW, there is lots of first responder testimony as to numerous, successive pre-collapse explosions.

Google is your friend.

"And he "sold the steel before it could be studied to China" because they'd help in the cover-up."

Nowhere did I say China would be involved with a "cover-up" if there was one. Say if someone higher up on the governmental ladder gave the orders to Giuliani (who would simply be following orders and be clueless about what was really going on), there would be no reason for the Chinese to be briefed about it as well.

I thought perhaps I could post my last message without having to actually spell it all out, but thanks for playing. :hi:

63. I sit here as an engineer designing steel when I saw this post
I hate to say it, but the blond is more right than Rosie. She is wrong on her temperatures and mixed up why Building 7 fell, but those buildings fell just as physics would predict. (NYC does not design for an earthquake in the magnitude caused by a falling WTC. (I guess people believe that a fire and earthquakes never flattened a building before.) Structural steel must be carefully fireproofed to prevent weakening during a normal fire, even then the fireproofing is only rated a couple of hours at most.

These "controlled demolition" theories give the Right Wing lots of ammo to show that we are nuts. (Sometimes I think the theories are planted by Rove to discredit us, much like that planted fake memo that downed Dan Rather.)

Make no mistake, there is a conspiracy here, one of INTENTIONAL GROSS NEGLIGENCE. Our country is being run by liars and thieves, who only want to use Government to benefit themselves. The failures in preventing this attack is related to the failures in Iraq, New Orleans and just about anything Bush touches.

I agree there was a conspiracy too - by bin Laden to send terrorists to hijack planes and crash them into prominent buildings.
There's an amazing amount of denial and projection bounding about in tinfoil-hatted conspiracist circles, fueled by racism and fear. This recent outbreak, fueled by some bonehead's televised rant, exposed a lack of trust in science, the same lack of trust/knowledge that fuels the anti-evolutionists, the moon-landing-was-faked, flying saucer abductees, and global warming non-believers.

Bin Laden did it. With hijacked airplanes.

68. Of course and Greg Palast is a conspiracy theorist
The other thing I found that they didn't like is that how did those people who were left in the water, how did they drown? And I discovered, talking to the head of the LSU, Louisiana State University Hurricane Center--the people running the hurricane evacuation--they told me, the Chief, a guy named Ivor van Heerden, had been holding this information to himself, he couldn't stand it any more, he said, "Someone's got to speak out. Let me lose my job." What he was saying is that George Bush's White House--he emphasised the "White House"; not just the government--the White House knew 20 hours or so before the levees burst that they were cracking apart and the city was gonna flood.

He was running the operation at the hurricane center in Lousiana, the state of Louisiana, and they stopped evacuating New Orleans. They were all congratulating each other. Katrina never hit the city, it went east of the city, so they were evacuating east. The White House didn't tell them that the levees were failing, and those things collapsed and 1500 people drowned. So people think it's bad; think that George Bush screwed up. It's worse than that. It's worse than that.

It's the only plausible scenario when you watch the video and look at the after-the-fact photographic evidence of building 7.

The towers are a contentious subject, but you can't honestly look at video of WTC7 collapsing and tell me it wasn't controlled.

72. The entire weight of the towers was already upon the ground.
They only went from one shape to another shape. There would still be a smaller force as the momentum of the top layers transferred to the ground, but not the force of its weight hitting as that was already there. Even as such, NYC is in an earthquake zone and does have earthquake design considerations as well as high wind since it can be hit by a hurricane.

The real question is how the core of buildings 1 and 2 fell since the core was a central structure and didn't bare weight of the floors vertically. And how long would it take at 1600 degrees to weaken the steal that was in that building (not just generic numbers, but that steel was certified by underwriter labs.)

94. When the 9/11 happened, I was sitting in my apt in South Carolina
chilled goose bumbs all along my arms and I said in my head because everyone would chastise me "what has Bush done now". Its one of those surreal moments where perhaps a bit of that ESP sense comes over you....Like the one that wakes you before the baby cries for milk. It actually surprised me that as the tragedy was unfolding in front of my eyes that I thought that so clearly. Sometimes we have a moment where we begin to wake up and look around to see our lives, our families, friends... There are things that are important in this world... and this war and this govt and this Amerika is not the United States I want to leave to my kids and grandkids.

Time to hop off the corporate rat wheel and realize that it is us that continues the perpetuation of these wars and this govt and this Amerika.... Everyone needs the trigger... mine started on 9/11 and the more I learn and look, the less I like... So, I try to do what I can. I know its not enough, but right now the rat wheel has caught me in a place where I still have to run... I am trying like mad to slow it down.
