Silence on McCain's reasonable, measured rsponse.

Applause for Rudy's use of torture.

More applause at Romney's suggestion to DOUBLE the size of Gitmo.

2. So much for their scenario...
Edited on Wed May-16-07 04:39 PM by zanne
How's this scenario---The "terrorists" caught in Miami are brought to Guantanamo, though some high up in the CIA claim they are not terrorists, just Iranian students who never went back home. They're tortured and tortured and tortured but they never give the "right" answers. They all die. Now here's the question; "Was it right for the United States of America to torture these innocent people to death"?
Smartass Republicans aren't the only ones who can come up with "scenarios".

4. Well they know their base
Wouldn't other forms of interrogation be more effective? They wouldn't have the added benefit of the pleasure the rightys get from inflicting pain on others.

5. my comments
I strongly support McCain's comments on this. I think he's correct and I think his time as a POW gives him expert credentials on at least this issue. ( I think hes sucks in many other areas, but if I had to pick a Republican, McCain would be near the top.)

Romney, on the other hand, is a vacuous empty suit that seems to have gotten the Republican sadistic/stupid thing down to a tee. Following Romney's reasoning, the best thing I could do for America is go out and assassinate Romney.

For the benefit of any American Governmental Gestapo that just read this, I'm speaking hypothetically to make a point. If I was really a bona-fide assassination threat in any way, shape or form, Bush and Cheney would be in Arlington National Cemetery right now.

And, Gestapo-nistas out there, your time would be better served Gitmo-ing all those in the crowd that clapped for Romney's spastic-ly ignorant response to this hypothetical question.

I hope the moderator of the next Presidential Debate asks this hypothetical question: If Napoleon had B-52's in the battle of Waterloo, would he have been victorious?

7. McCain makes a good point, but don't forget
he says Americans won't pick lettuce for even $50/hr.
http://blog.aflcio.org/2006/04/05/50-an-hour-to-pick-lettuce-you-bet/

Maybe the source is biased, so look at this one:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1615112/posts

Sorry. McCain is telling people what they want to hear (about terrorists). It's well thought out. When he made his $50 lettuce comment and got responses to it, he brushed them off. I don't think that's the sign of a good leader; party designation has nothing to do with it.

Indeed. It's obvious plenty of people on both political sides know McCain is a fraud, clutching at well spoken straws to try to even eke out one vote.

Romney's merely a tool. Even McCain would be a better choice, but as McCain wasn't sincere on his comment about picking lettuce, why should he be taken seriously about anything else?

8. The ticking bomb scenario...
Edited on Wed May-16-07 07:31 PM by rexcat
is a nice plot twist in movies and television but in reality it just won't happen. As Dennis Kucinich put so well once you cross the threshold on a scenario that can't happen in reality such as torturing someone in a ticking bomb scenario you have lost the moral high ground (or something to that effect).

edited for spelling or lack there of...

11. So annoying.
"We should use enhanced interrogation techniques."
"Like torture?"
"No."
"Waterboarding?"
"Yes."

Where do these people get the idea that waterboarding isn't torture? And who the hell are the people clapping at Romney's double guantanamo plan? No need to worry about him blowing away our money and putting us further into debt. Dumbass.

12. Suppose the tortured operative says a GOP Candidate is the Ringleader/Traitor
And that these operatives were only caught because they found out who the puppetmaster was and he turned them in anonymously.

He also says there a several larger attacks planned and that the GOP Ringleader is going to personally stop all but one of them to play the hero, thus erasing his competition for POTUS.

The remaining city-sized attack is scheduled to happen in less than a week.

Oh, and the guy you just tortured to death was the only one who knew which candidate.

Unlikely, but plausible. Right Brit?
