Cavuto- Fox News covered Million Man March *before* Fox News existed (1:42 compilation) |
|
– Apparently, these populist protests don’t count much for them. Millions concerned they’re being taxed and feed to death counts even less for them. But a Million March March that turns out to be well shy of a million men — even half a million men — does count for them. We covered the follow-up marches to that Million Man March, because no matter the number, it was a big deal.
– We do not pick and choose these rallies and protests. We were there for the Million Man March, even though, as I pointed out, it turned out to be well shy of a million men.
– Because like in the Million Man March, it didn’t turn out to be a million men, but it got covered.
– You seem to pick and choose what events and protests were worthy. Million Man March, worthy, even though it wasn’t a million men, it was half a million. We covered that because we thought it had a worthy message too.
– But a Million March March that turns out to be well shy of a million men — even half a million men — does count for them. We covered the follow-up marches to that Million Man March, because no matter the number, it was a big deal.
The problem, as News Hounds points out, is that the Million Man March took place on Oct. 16, 1995. According to the News Corp. website, however, Fox News did not begin operations until Oct. 7, 1996 — almost a full year after the March. Cavuto joined the network a few months before it launched — in July 1996. Before joining Fox, he was at CNBC.

1. He probably didn't bother to check the facts because |
|
he knows that Fox viewers won't notice the lie, or care that he lied, or will just believe anything he says.

6. Wouldn't want to deprive the racist audience. I guess racism trumps facts |
|
This way they can all compain about how they would get coverage if they were black (and of course, they would use "other words" besides black).
I like the way he starts with.... "I know why WE are covering this". Um, yeah...., everybody knows why YOU are covering this. :)

8. Facts? Facts? We don' need no stinkin' facts! |
|
FOX doesn't CARE about facts unless they get in the way of their propaganda - then they just deny said facts.

3. I think he says 'we covered the follow up marches to the Million Man march' |
|
Maybe he means that they showed pictures of it after it happened? Albeit mainly to discredit it as a 'million' man march. At first I thought he meant 'we' as in the media or him when he was on a different network.

4. and, even if Fox existed, and covered the March ... |
|
they would have been focusing on the black men spouting expletives ... and, if they couldn't find any, they'd have footage of some doing so, just with a generic background which would have no identifying signs saying it was in D.C. ...

This is right up there with throwing out the 'liberal press' canard during elections it is an attempt to cow the other less ideological members of the media to cover events the way the Republicans/Conservatives want them too. Basically I hear him saying 'gee we've hyped these photo-op tea parties so we have something to cover for our braindead watchers why the hell isn't everybody else all excited about it'. If it is only Fox covering it when they have done their best to support it and make sure it happens then it goes for the realm of protest to the realm of publicity stunt.
Just checked Cavuto's <500000 numbers. It is true that the Park Service estimated 400,000 but the organizers estimated 1 to 1.5 million and at least one academic study estimated the participation at between 650,000 to 1.2 million. In the end 'Million Man March' was as much an idea as it was a target. Yes it would be considered much more successful it that had actually achieved a million or more attendance but 400000 is still a huge crowd. So Cavuto seems to think that if you say a million are going to show up but you only get 400000 then it isn't really worth covering it but if you get a few thousand people to protest that is a must to cover. He obviously thinks that it is not the size of the protest but what political philosophy is being espoused that is the important deciding factor. Again this is typical of the conservative thought process they see 'Million Man March' and 400000 and they say 'aha we got em it wasn't really a million men. na na na na na'. By the way apparently this event was the last time the Park Service made a crowd estimate which is interesting.

10. Further proof that Fox knows the IQ of their audience. |
|
Reactionary 6-packers with a serious racist bent. Folks that would be much more likely to buy a gun rather than read a history book or bother to do some fact-checking.
