3. Jesus, could that Rick Sanchez be more of a condescending moron?
How grating, how awful he is. This is the best CNN can bring us? Blecch.

Gravel on the other hand is holding himself well. Funny how the corporations hold new ideas to be "amusing".

5. The One Thing About Gravel ...
My support is teetering between the 3 actual anti war candidates at this time ... Gravel, Paul and Kucinich ... any of the three would be fine by me but for the sake of argument lets wheedle down which of the three I should face a firing squad for supporting....
Gravel .... I have this thing about his economics ... I don't really understand his income tax idea but I DO UNDERSTAND the Carbon tax idea and I have seen it explained and have come to conclude that the carbon tax is the most REGRESSIVE tax there could be. Correct me if I am wrong but at this time I am going with the one that is looking at cutting spending as well as doing something with the tax code.
This could be subject to revision so fire away ....

7. Similar to VAT
Instead of having to pay an income tax you have a sort of flat tax system so that there is, for example, a 25% tax on anything that is not food. The idea being that the more wealth you have, the more stuff you would be purchasing, and the more in tax you would pay. It's similar to the European VAT tax system.

I don't know that I necessarily like it but the IRS just plain sucks.

8. I am Voting Gravel.
The only two candidates I like are Gravel and Kucinich, unfortunately Kucinich is looking to ban firearms so I will not vote for him.

9. Before the Dems' capitulation
on the Iraq spending bill, I was not voting for Gravel. Now I will, with others hopefully, in order to send a message to the capitulators: we exist, we vote and we're fed up with your spineless bullshit.

10. He lost me at the flat tax bit.
I've dealt with flat taxes and, like poll taxes, they hit the poorest first and hardest.

What needs to be done is to fix the taxation system so that it is no longer skewed towards giving the wealthiest more wealth. The so-called "death tax" is, for instance, a fair tax in that you have to have money before it makes a difference. Call it the Paris Hilton tax, and you've got it.

11. For me the war is THE most important issue there is, and the war profiteering that goes with it
tax programs like he recommended would never get past a democratically controlled congress, so it's a non issue for me when considering a presidential candidate. He was a progressive leader for the Democrats during Vietnam, and speaks for me now.

14. In Canada, a percentage of the GST paid by all is returned to the...
poorest (as well as the "less" poor) in the form of a non-taxable (of course) refund check (or Direct-Deposit as an option) every three months. It's been like that for more than a decade now, and I don't hear too much complaints about the program.

For more information on it, do a simple search on, for example, Canada Goods Services Tax (or) Canada GST
