Here is the full version of this morning's Rosie O'Donnell/Elisabeth Hasselbeck fight. (May 23, 2007)

Ms. Hasselbeck is nothing more than a right wing shill who cannot think for herself. She cannot help but "challenge" Ms. Behar's facts with her "opinions". Rosie O'Donnell jumps in and is spot on about everything she says, but is very emotional about it and this leads to the biggest fight I think I've ever seen on this show.

1. I think they were both ugly.
I agree that Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a right-wing, shrill bushbot that argues from a very emotional place. However, I also think Rosie made the argument very personal and was equally unreasonable.

3. Such incidents have occurred
ever since the right wing hate machine changed the tone in America. "They" expect liberals and dems to sit back and be courteous and polite in such settings, easily shouted down. they teach that nonsense.

Edited on Wed May-23-07 01:55 PM by BOSSHOG
when my manhood and patriotism were questioned because I politely shared my opinion that I didn't think it a good idea we invade Iraq. I did 24 years, he doing the questioning had never served in the military up to that time, and I doubt he has since. From that day on I play the VET Card every chance I encounter a chickenhawk, and I do so loudly and rudely.

God Bless your Soul Mom, ya taught me to be polite but you never met the bastards who call themselves conservatives in this country today, thank God.

If Wes Clark runs, we all must play this card against the chickenhawk that the GOP will nominate.

My "breaking point" was the Dixie Chicks boycott! It turned me off to country after seeing so many "artists" in the country community condemn the girls!

172. Tell them to study the findings of Sigmund Freud (if they can read...)
Especially the part about psychological projection:

http://www.answers.com/topic/psychological-projection
~snap~
In psychology, psychological projection (or projection bias) is a defense mechanism in which one attributes ("projects") to others, one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions. Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted subconscious impulses/desires without letting the ego recognize them. The theory was developed by Sigmund Freud and further refined by his daughter Anna Freud.

And if they can't read, hand them a mirror! :)

Edited on Wed May-23-07 07:37 PM by AnneD
would NEVER question YOUR manhood Boss.

I had given intelligent, factual reasons as to why Bush was not telling the truth and why we shouldn't go into Iraq (I had no problem going after the Tali ban and OBL in Afghanistan).

But when these jerks started questioning MY patriotism- I blew my gasket too. I whipped out my military photo (a shocker cause I'm a girl-batting eyes at this point) and then would launch into their spineless chicken shit asses and tear them a new one in a way that only a woman force to whip new recruits that are twice her size into line could. I would ask them how many years they served (almost none), and how dare they give me that pompous ass ed shit about supporting the troops cause I never saw their asses on the firing range giving me cover and hell, they'd probably be so frightened if they were fired at they'd piss cotton and fart dust. I've had more than one beat a hasty retreat over that or some similar narration. I developed a long list of colourful adjectives and phrases, both as an AF brat and a USAR grunt.

I was in a bad mood then, but I have been going through menopause and I suffer fools even less these days. If I do ever cause bodily harm to one of these numb nuts I would demand trial of a jury of my peers-other women going through menopause or DU'rs.

That pretty much takes the wind out of their sails.

The sad comments that I get back in return, on other message boards, are "when are you going to enlist in Al Quaida?"

These clowns just don't get it. They are patriotic cowards; which is about as useful as tits on a bull.

59. You can't use reason with lower primates....
I was fairly courteous up until 2003, and I severed ties with many republican friends.

A lot of democrats still want to play nice with people who either lack most basic comprehension and reasoning skills, and thus are unable to reason... so trying to carry a conversation with them is akin to debate with a wall: i.e. a waste of time. Or people who are fairly capable mentally, but decide to support the crimes carried out by this administration because they support their political party over their country. This makes them both criminals and traitors. People who haven't seen the light after 6+ years of this criminal cabal fail in either of both camps. Thus, trying to reason with either group is an exercise in futility

A big chunk of liberals, which would pass for moderate right wingers in other parts of the world, are still in denial about it. Witness their caving to a petulant president with no mandate whatsoever, the endless chain of "threatening" letters, which Rove and Co use as toilet paper.

The country's treasure is depleted, there is an endless war of aggression, we are still as unsafe as before 9/11, Katrina, voting disenfranchisement, constant assaults on the constitution, the radicalization of the Christian right, the opaqueness of a government that does not follow the law and expect citizens to comply with laws they haven't pass, etc, etc, etc.

If you think you can debate with the people who brought us these things, as if they somehow were mistaken and not willing participants... then I have a nice bridge to sell you.

40. That's exactly right.
The only way for Repukes to "win" arguments is to yell and argue from an emotional place, not a fact-based place. I mean, WTF was that comment that Bush would panicked little kids if he excused himself from reading "My Pet Goat" on 9-11? Obviously, if your only lens on the world is through emotion, you can't imagine the leader of the free world saying with calm dignity something like, "Oh, I'm so sorry, boys and girls, but an emergency has come up and I have to leave. I hope I'll be to come back and visit you in the future." President Gore would have handled it a lot better.

There would have been no 9-11 as it went down, MIHOP/LIHOP-wise. But that's not to say something equally freakish couldn't have happened on his watch. The Oklahoma City bombing happened on Clinton's watch, after all, and that was no reflection on him. Really I'm just saying that Gore would have had some damn grace and tact and sense of how to appropriately respond to a national disaster if children were present.

190. OK bombing
Edited on Thu May-24-07 12:03 PM by Carolina
was perpetrated by the likes of Bushbots, the very sort of rightwing nutcases who loathed, vilified and tried to destroy (by every means possible) Clinton. BC did not have a month of warnings and yet let it happen. And he surely didn't make it happen on purpose to facilitate some long planned scheme. So the fact that OKC/Murrah building bombing happened on his watch means ZIP.

9/11, on the other hand, has been used ad nauseum to undo everything good about this nation.

Huge difference!

The daycare center in the Morrow building was ground zero for the attack. You completely missed the point of my post, that in the event of a national disaster, Dems behave more appropriately. I wasn't saying there was any other connection between the OK City and 9/11 except that disasters can happen on all presidential watches. Geesh. :eyes:

It's all so predictable and calculated. I've never had any respect (or like) for Hasselback. She's obviously just another bot. She can't think for herself and just regurgitates what's she's been fed, and she thinks it all makes sense and is reasonable--because they said so. She's perfect for them, she embraces it all so easily--never daring to question authority or the logic behind any of it.

She's the kind of person to feel sorry for. She may have all the trappings of success, but she's trapped, and limited as a woman. She'll only go as far as they will lead her. When they take her straight to the slaughter house, or tell her to drink the Kool-Aid...well, you know how that goes. ;)

53. I agree. Liberals do not have to fake nice, but I would not have answered Rosie's question either.
I agree that it's more important to speak out than to appear nicey-nice with republicans. However, if Rosie O'Donnell had asked me whether I thought people like her (whatever that means) love Hitler or eat babies or think the troops are terrorists, I wouldn't dignify that stupid question with a response either - even though I certainly don't believe any of those things. I don't blame Elizabeth for not answering Rosie's question, even if Elizabeth is wrong, wrong, wrong on so many other issues.

No one is a bad liberal for not finding Rosie O'Donnell pleasant to watch. Elizabeth Hasselbeck is also unpleasant to watch, even moreso. However, she's the Alan Colmes of the View. She's completely irrelevant and only has the floor when the louder cohosts waste time on her. Every time Rosie wastes time sparring with Elizabeth over politics, she gives Elizabeth a forum to spew.

In addition, I don't think Rosie defends her points very well. Elizabeth may be a coward, but not because she won't answer Rosie's question. It doesn't matter what Elizabeth thought about Rosie. What matters is what is true. If Rosie doesn't think the troops are terrorists, why would she need validation from Elizabeth?

177. Rosie's mistake
It's a mistake many in the media spotlight make--she made it all about her rather than the issues. Then again, maybe that's what the average "The View" watcher wants. It's not a news show, it's not even really an issues discussion show--it's a talk show that for the most part focuses on fluff.

I disagree with everything about Elizabeth Hasselbeck. She's shrill, fake, and kind of racist. She appears to be a spoiled, insensitive person and must lead a very sheltered life.

However, if Rosie O'Donnell had asked me whether I thought people like her believed in anything, I wouldn't answer either. It's clearly a flamebait question and I wouldn't bite. She (not I) should be the one to state what she believes.

68. Rosie takes things personally
Edited on Wed May-23-07 02:53 PM by lynyrd_skynyrd
Rosie takes it personally because she truly believes (believed) that Elisabeth Hasselbeck was her friend, outside of their political differences. When Rosie pointed out, correctly, that the 600,000+ innocent people killed as a result of this war can be considered terrorism by the Muslim world, any sane, rational, person with more than two brain cells knew that she was not calling the troops terrorists.

But then Fox News and others did just that. And Elisabeth didn't defend her at all, which is why Rosie took it so personally. Instead, Elisabeth did what she always does, which is repeat what her masters at Fox News say, because she can't think for herself.

If your so called friend sides with people who are publicly attacking you and misrepresenting your words, you take it personally. That is human nature. Elisabeth Hasselbeck chose political groupthink over friendship. There was no reason she couldn't have simply given a "no" answer to the question. Instead, she chose to dodge and defend the people like Sean Hannity who lied about what Rosie actually said.

If I was Rosie, I would react in the same way.

191. Agree, repukes
make it personal: Harry Reid is a traitor because he says the war is lost. Dems are not supporting the troops because they don't do as I, the decider guy, say (too bad Dems have capitulated), etc.

Repukes can't fight with fact so they resort to innuendo, lies and name calling even against their own. Look at Rudy Crossdresser's response when Ron paul told the truth about why they hate us. No fact, all emotion.

The time is long overdo to fight back, call them on their cowardice, their failure to answer questions simply with a yes or no. As Jack Nicholson would say: YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

I think your response is a great one, but couldn't he have just skipped the appearance. As far as I know Bush knew about the attacks before he left his hotel. So, it seems to me that he could have just sent one of his officials or an assistant to tell the kids that the President could not be with them that day because of situation or matter that need the Presidents attention.

Watch the scene in Fahrenheit 9/11 where * sits and sits and sits. The look on his face and Michael Moore's voice over are right on target. * knew the PNAC plan was going down. He was not surprised, not shocked and not in command. He was/is the puppet who knew what his masters were up to. Remember there had been those secret energy meetings in the Spring of 2001 ...

They stole power in 2000 and then needed an excuse (a big one) to start a war, blame Iraq (and BTW kill Saddam to shut him up 'cause he knew all the secrets from the 1980s) and take over its oil.

Next stop Iran! It's already starting folks.

It would have been too scary for the kids for the moron to excuse himself. What a pile of steaming horseshit. I taught school for several years, and if there is an interruption in the classroom, you know what? The kids deal with it.

"Boys and girls, I'm sorry I have to leave you a bit early. Something very important has come up that requires my immediate attention. Thanks for being such a wonderful class."

Teacher leads applause and moron exits stage left.

Jeez, what the hell is so difficult about that? It would be laughable, if it wasn't so damn pathetic.

What's truly frightening is that Ms. Hasselbeck actually believes this talking point. The higher ups such as Hannity and O'Reilly know full well that it's nothing more than manufactured spin, and they're just doing their jobs to keep the ignorant masses brainwashed. Hasselbeck, on the other hand, is one of those millions of ignorant people who are so utterly dim that they fall for it.

I am astonished every day when I see people like Ms. Hasselbeck. Where do they come from? It could be the poor education system, it could be the mass fear machine, or it could be religion. Sometimes I wonder.

Rosie is too good for that show. She deserves one of her own and she should take Joy with her. Finally, he stands up to him ready to fight, even if he gets his butt kicked, but he is ready to fight. No matter what happens, it still feels better to stand up to the bully.

39. Women have breasts...
...also known as tits in the parlance of our times.

Hasselbeck seems to have a very nicely shaped torso, around the area where her breasts should be. She also seems to be devoid of most mental functions. Other than a nice physique/good looks I fail to see what else does she bring to the show/discussion.

Some of you should get off the high horse and deal with the fact there are fairly stupid members of both sexes, pointing that out doesn't make anyone a misogynist. The term means to hate all women simply because they are women... I fail to see how pointing out that some idiot in a show is nothing but a good looking shill can somehow be taken as hate for all women.

I rather concentrate on the real issues, Hasselbecks open support for evil policies, than splitting hairs about the language used. No wonder Dems suck at defending their positions, having to concentrate on not stepping on eggshells seems to take most of their spine's functionality.

Relax people, OK? I guess I am misogynist for thinking that Hasselbeck is a complete buffoon...

61. No we should instead waste our time beating the dead horse
of how outrageous is someone using language that may somehow offend the sensibility of someone who is constantly looking out for anything to impact their fragile little minds.

Our country is in flames, we should however make sure that our request for help to the fire department is grammatically correct, passes a spelling check, and abides by the "Elements of Style" guidelines. I mean we will end up with a burned down place, but at least we never compromised our grammar, and that will surely show the arsonist!!!

113. No,
I would think it's because you reduce a woman to her "tits" to put her in her place. How about she's stupid, or only understands spoon fed talking points? Something that doesn't reduce her to her appearance. Oh, silly me, I forgot, that's the most important thing about women.

Notice when people, on the right or left, get on Rosie's case, the lead off is always calling her fat or a bulldyke or scary.

Saying she has nice tits to belittle her is almost as bad as saying "I'd hit that."

Men don't want to get why it is offensive to women when men say crap like what you said. You're a prime example of that.

Elizabeth should be permanently muzzled. She is an insult to humanity. She is not someone anyone with a single brain cell could respect. Her remark about Bush " not terrorizing the children" was classic. It was alright to endanger the entire nation to protect the sensibilities of a handful of kids? Gag me with a spoon! As if he couldn't have just politely left to tend to business. She clearly relates to dimwits like herself and like Bush is outraged by even the suggestion of intelligence.

30. Do you realize that Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the only one on The View
that is coached by the producers on these political diatribes?

Rosie was asked that question on her blog and she verified that it was in fact true. She also added that she did not know why it is being done.

I saw the intense hatred today that Elisabeth Hasselbeck has for Rosie. She no longer feels any need to hide it.

Rosie rocks and I hope she will find another show where she will be free to state her "view."

Today Joy rocked for once!

165. That's not how I saw it, Joy was listing her facts, Bubblehead is the
one who was interrupting her when Joy said "Please just let me finish my list". Bubble interrupted with the 'supposed to frighten the children' comment and 2 other things. If you'll watch again, Rosie is not speaking during the reading of the list, Joy is reading, Bubblehead is interrupting. When Bubble makes her comment about Al Queda being the enemy, then Rosie interrupts and asks if Iraq attacked us. Bubble gets more and more irate and talks over Rosie's answers (yells over) more than the other way around.

I hear what you're saying about it being a prime example of junk over substance, but Rosie was not the force behind that catfight, and the bimbo was the reason you didn't hear Joy's question completely.

166. I agree with you except that I think Joy probably could have...
handled Bubblehead on her own and stayed focused on the issues, instead of it becoming the "Rosie and Bubblehead show."

I never watch the show, so I don't know if Joy is usually that outspoken against Bush, but I was just wowed to hear her statements on a network show. It was depressing to see the attention turned to the co-host's feud, instead of staying focused on the disaster that is BushCo.

Unfortunately, I think the feud will be reported now, instead of reporting on the "outrageous" statements made by Behar. :(

Bubblehead actually did a better job of defending herself personally against Rosie, than she did defending her talking points against Joy.

I hope Joy doesn't give up and makes her point on another show.

But every time, EH shouts everyone else down. She never lets anyone say anything without shouting them down.

They all shout over each other, but usually it's because she has begun it by shouting down the person who supposedly had the floor for the moment.

BTW, what was it that Behar said that made veryone laugh near the end of the clip? I could't hear it with all the shouting.

101. Not sure exactly...
... but they (Joy & Guest Host) gathered their notes, starting to leave like they didn't matter, and neither of them could get a word in edgewise. They tried everything they could to calm the discussion down, change the subject, with Joy saying that it was she who brought this whole issue up. Rosie & Loudmouth Liz were so focused on ATTACK mode, that it was hard to see or hear much else. This was some of the behavior of Star that lead to her leaving the show, IMHO. Sad events when Barbara Walters is not there to referee the madness sometimes - She has a calming effect, being their boss.

125. Well, it does seem, from the clips I have seen here on DU,
that every time things get serious, they want to change the subject to some something trivial.

I believe there should be rules on shows like this about letting people finish what they are saying and not shouting over them. Maybe they need to be passing around a talking stick or something. And to prevent someone from just hogging the floor, there should eb pre-established time limits.

Joy Behar was the real star of that conversation. She argued with the cold hard truth. She was passionate and angry and shut Elizabeth down.

Rosie was right about the "big fat lesbian" comment. It is not fair that she's blamed for every disagreement with Elizabeth. Also, Elizabeth was wrong about "being all about the facts." She's clearly a nut. However, both of them appear emotionally distraught and unreasonable. Their squabbling was clearly not as much about the issues as it was about interpersonal stress. They need a therapist, not a talk show.

How the hell does Bush stay in office with the number of serious f***ups he's had, in addition to him being totally incompetent, opportunistic and manipulative.

I want to smack the shit out of Elizabeth, every time she goes into one of her tirades but ends up reaffirming America's opinion that she's a total idiot and bases nothing on facts.

And the other lady, Sherri, shut the hell up! It's obvious she really knows nothing if she's going to throw out "he didn't sleep with an intern" or "Al Gore? Al Gore?" as what? a counter to Joy's loooooooooooong list of wtf was Bush thinking incidents. :wtf:

I think Rosie was at least a little foolish, but I agree with her in questioning Hasselback or at least with being upset with Hasselback not being able to answer the question. Rosie asked an easy question and if Hasselback did not think Rosie thought our troops were terrorists she could have just said no. This make me think Hasselback thinks Rosie and all Democrats and liberals think our troops are terrorists. Yes, Rosie should not have asked Hasselback the question in the first place in that she knows whether she think our troops are terrorists or not. She should not need Hassselback to say anything about it. However, it really was an easy question for Hasselback to answer.

120. an interesting exchange
EH does a fine job exposing the neocon thinking processes and frame-of-mind. I think she's also being coached to respond in a particular way, which I've seen with other "Republicans" on the defensive on tv (such as not giving a straight answer to a question). I guess it's like being in a cult; she's been marinated in that peverse ideology for so long that she's lost touch with the ability to engage in critical thinking.

I put "Republicans" in quotes for a reason. There are many facets to the Republican Party. Not all of them are insane; many are absolutely horrified by what this administration has done to their party. I hope they -- the Ron Pauls and John Deans -- can reclaim their party before it becomes a full-fledged cult. (I know Dean is registered Independent, but he used to be Republican.)

Love this: You might want to rethink catering to the 25% who still support Bush.

on tomorrow's show, I'd ask the blonde wingnut if she watched Al Gore on her "TiVo"...

Man, I hope Rosie stays on tv somewhere.

Word is she had already scheduled to take tomorrow off, and since they film Friday's show on Thursday I wonder if she will be taking a powder until next week.

137. Alicia Silverstone dissed Elizabeth when she came out?
I could have sworn she skipped Elizabeth entirely and went right to Joy - and Elizabeth looked PISSED! Did anyone else notice that or was I imagining it?

154. I noticed it. Alicia seriously dissed Elisabeth but did you notice
once the interviewing started Elisabeth was asking her one question after another and hogging the interview. It was as if Elisabeth was showing her she would not be ignored. Made her look even more desperate. Rosie should have bitch slapped her a long time ago. All Elisabeth ever did before the view was be a contestant on a reality show AND she didn't even win it.

169. No imagining it. I watched it this morning and also noticed that
Alicia Silverstone avoided eye contact with her for the rest of the interview. EH also had her arms folded for much of the show, including during interviews with Joey Fatone and Laylah Ali. Guess she wasn't feeling a very warm environment there at work today!

156. I HAVE FINALLY FIGURED THIS SHIT OUT!!! NO LIE!
I have often been accused of engaging in generational warfare. My folks and their compatriots are boomers, and I have always noted the incipient distaste my parents and their family show for one another, and to be honest, it has all of the odor of a long standing sibling rivalry.

It started to make me wonder whether ALL of life's little discordant moments are not in some way traceable back to our youthful traumas.

This latest episode of O'Donnell vs. Hasselbeck puts all of this into focus. I recognize lil' Ms. Hasselbeck.

She's a cheerleader. Conservatives are jocks. Liberals are nerds. You do the math.

And another generation succumbs to its childhood trauma.

160. Who is EH? and the 1st guest on the show
EH's claim to fame is that she was on the reality show -
survivor! No brains needed there - and then we mustn't forget
she's married to a 2nd string football player. Did anyone
else notice when Alicia Silverstone came on, she barely shook
EH's hand but went on to hug the other hosts? EH noticed
because she stood there with her hands on her hips and I
thought she was going to comment but she (for once) kept her
mouth shut! GO ROSIE!

178. No way would ABC let a commercial air
The powers that be wanted to make sure Tweety, Joe, Abrams, Fox lies all had fodder for bash Rosie segments. With all of the revelations that came out of DC yesterday, their fight was a no news item. Instead it was treated like the it was the most important story of the day. It's interesting that the Bushbot is coached and it's too bad Rosie has a scheduled day off today. Neocons are boils on the buttocks of the earth

Rosie asked a simple yes or no question which Coulter-Cult Elizabeth would not answer because it would blow a huge whole in her rightwing talking point(s) that people who don't support the war (and any/all actions that have ensued from it) :

A) don't support the troops
B) don't love America
C) consider the troops terrorists
D) blame America first
E) are God-hating, heathen, liberal .... (fill in the blank with more vitriol)
F) ALL OF THE ABOVE

207. Rosie showed remarkable restraint
It would have taken the 8th Army to hold me back from jumping across the desk and slapping that vapid little bitch silly.

"You have the power to change things with the next election!" ROFLMFAO.

"Iraq is our enemy." No, "I meant Al Quada." FYI, sweetie, AQ is ALL OVER THE GODDAMNED WORLD. Iraq did not attack us on 9/11. Most of your right-wing comrades now at least concede THAT much.

"I can't help what others say about you." No, but you are MORE THAN WILLING to play the hurt, little, wounded victim when you get your ass handed to you by people who know a little more of what they speak than you do. (And Rosie is SPOT ON -- all of O'Donnell's points would have been overwhelmed by her "rough" persona attacking Hasselbeck's "sweetness and innocence.")

Hasselbeck is a 10th rate Bill O'Reilly: Talks over people, changes her arguments in midstream, "clarifies" her points when she realizes she's been backed into a corner, and cannot answer a simple yes-or-no question because it will prove the other side's point. In short, a typical right-wing media hack.

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:
