These people are unbelievable. This is ethically and morally wrong if not legally.

1. donning my flame suit
let me just point out that there hasn't been an honest budget produced by the US government in my lifetime (30+ years), and that any business that did their accounting like the government does its accounting would be shut down by law, its financial officers thrown in prison for a long time.

At some point the reality is going to dawn that yes, we do need to care about what we actually spend on things. My fear is that most people can't deal coherently with the size of the numbers in play here.

As someone who has worked for more than one agency of the US government, I'm going to put out there that the level of waste is astronomical, the level of accountability is nonexistent, and until something seriously changes about both of those things, the federal government can't be counted on for anything but to take your money and give it to campaign donors of politicians.

3. That is well beside the point IMHO.
I am sure and the Chinese probably were too that the budget numbers aren't correct. However, here you have a sitting member of the government telling a foreign government not to believe our budget. That undercuts anything the government might want to do with China financially. They can just point at this idiot as proof positive that nothing should be believed.

Imagine what the Rethugs would have done if a Dem had done that. It's not okay!

We need to fix the budget process. However, this is in no way shape or form anyway to try to do that nor is that this man's aim. He thinks we need to be "honest" with countries we deal with. Please!

5. You know what...I agree with Kirk's statement...
The US government's budget should not be believed. However, there is a problem here.

Where was Mark Kirk and his indignation when President Bush estimated the Iraq war cost,
and then proceeded to spend billions more?

Where was Mark Kirk when President Bush was exploding the deficit?

These bastards. They'll viciously attack anyone who dares to question their spending,
their bankrupting of this nation and their reckless lies. In fact, if you were against
the Iraq-war spending you were positioned as unpatriotic and someone who didn't
support the troops!!!

I have lost faith in our government, and in its ability to spend wisely and responsibly.

I am hoping that Obama changes this. So, Kirk is right---but it's just too damn bad that
he's trying to take down this administration when he was so silent during Bush's tenure.
And you can damn well bet that if a Republican takes the Presidency in '12--he'll return to
his justification of Republican overspending and recklessness.

These bastards don't care about spending, budgets or about this country. All they care
about is taking down Democrats--any way they can--and regaining power so they can
further destroy this country.

7. Exactly!
I find it quite funny that the Republicans have spent the past 4 months calling Obama a Commie and here they are running off and siding with a Communist Country over America!!
