Written Statement of Marcia Angell, M. D.

Senior Lecturer in Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Former Editor-in-Chief, New England Journal of Medicine

"The American health system is uniquely expensive and inflationary. Last
year we spent about $2.5 trillion on health care, or some $8,000 per person,
and costs keep growing much faster than the background inflation rate.

What about comparably wealthy countries? If we look at the 30 members of
the OECD, we find a startling disparity. In the most recent year for which
figures are available, we spent two and a half times as much per person on
health care as the median for the OECD countries. The other countries
clustered fairly close together, while we stood clearly apart, and that gap is
growing. Clearly, our health system is unsustainable...."

1. WOW!! Excellent testimony!!
This young lady said it all! I'm sure the repugs weren't listening, and the insurance industry reps were too busy squirming in their chairs to give their full attention.

WE NEED SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE IN THIS COUNTRY!!....to compete with the rest of the world in the business sector and to save our citizens from financial ruin in the society we are nurturing.

WAKE UP AMERICA!! F*CK THESE CONGRESSMEN who see their donation plates in danger. F*CK THEM ALL!!

"....of the people, by the people, and FOR the people..." Ring a bell???

6. Imagine if the Democrats repeated that line and actually made
people think.

12. We should fight to at least be heard, Dr. Marcia Angell is one
of the people Conyers wanted to invite to the WH summit, he was not allowed to do so.

:(

15. Agree, always hopeful, but I also remember what Conyers said
about holding BushCo accountable.

18. Kick for Dr. Angell.
Damnit! This is what the public wants.

Washington is completely out of step with the public. We have to somehow reign in the corporate influence and make this OUR country again.

I am so sick of the insurance companies dictating the terms of the debate. They are the problem and the problem shouldn't be involved in crafting the solution. The damned foxes shouldn't be the architects of the hen house! :grr:

People are going broke! People are dying! The economy is dying! We need to fix this NOW and we need to be free of the influence of special interests in deciding how to do so.
