I am a bit stunned. Is this not Senator Fred Thompson issuing a veiled threat to put Michael Moore in a mental institution for making a film that he doesn't like - SICKO? I know he isn't serious, but this is the sort of verbal violence that we need to expose to the light of day.

I'm not sure what it is. I saw this somewhere else recently--isn't this in the movie? If it is, perhaps it's not as threatening as it might sound--Thompson IS an actor, after all, so perhaps this was his overly dramatic way to avoid making a comment to be included in the film?

8. This was, if memory serves, Thompson's response to

Moore's challenge to debate him on health care. Apparently FDT would rather smoke stogies and make threats. He started it by making an issue of Moore's going to Cuba in an op ed piece in a right wing journal; Micheal responded by challenging him to a debate, and this was his response. Since he's also skipping the repuke debates, one has to wonder if he's afraid of debating.

3. Is the cigar supposed to be some sort of phallic symbol?

I cannot imagine that women will vote for this guy. I don't think he has any qualities that women trust. He is so condescending and superior acting. What a phony.

As for the mental institution bit, we all not Castro has done these awful things. But wait till Michael Moore's film comes out. From what I have heard, it says what Americans are thinking -- that American insurance companies are doing some awful things everyday -- like refusing to provide affordable mental health care to millions of Americans who need it.

Fred Thompson is foolish to be picking on Moore. Moore simply tells the truth in an entertaining way. Some Americans may not have liked Farenheit 9/11 because it concerned things they accepted on faith and had no personal knowledge of, but I suspect that Moore's new film on health care is going to be accepted as the truth and nothing but the truth by ordinary Americans. Too many of us have had to fight with insurance companies just to be able to get basic health care we could afford -- and many of us have not been able to get affordable health care when we needed it.

9. does he really act?

I mean in a professional way? I've heard he comes in unprepared and wanting to argue for more lines in scenes--at the time when scenes are to be shot. His acting doesn't hold a candle to Jesse L. Martin, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Sam Waterston, who are real actors and don't just play one on TV.

10. His acting is always the same.

He plays the cracker southern ex-senator good ole boy in every role he "acts" in. My beagle could work up more emotional resonance waiting for scraps from the dinner table than I've ever seen Fred T. project on L & O. Really, my dog derserves an Oscar for his haunting, wounded looks at the plates in front of us when we're eating. Does that qualify him for the White House? Um, no.

7. Rude and obnoxious

the only thing good about FDT's candidacy is that he is leaving Law & Order. And from what I have read from people on the production crew, they, too, are happy to see this prima donna go.
