I drove to the East Coast of the UAE to catch the 30ft waves and the storm surge from the formerly Cat. 5 Tropical Cyclone Gonu. We had a family outing playing storm chasers!

Youtube player is getting interesting, they show related things underneath the one you posted. Just watched the tsunami again, omg.

So, how is the weather? I've been watching a couple Omani bloggers, how is it for you?

2. Storm passes by to the East... just a little rough weather on the East Coast of UAE
The waves were huge... I saw 30ft waves crashing onto the headland near Khor Fakkan... couldn't take video there as it was near a military base and a bit far away as well...

Ever see 30 ft waves crash into a wall of solid rock? The spray and water can go up nearly 100 feet...!!!

This is a VERY rare event for here...

Global Warming???

thought you`d escape the nasty weather back home?... we are supposed to get 50 mile an hour winds , highs 90`s, and possible very severe weather across the heartland today. usually this weather hits us in august.

nah there`s no global warming...but everyone one talks to, thinks there is something wrong with the weather!

4. Could be normal- last storm was 30yrs back... there was HEAVY damage in Muscat
and other parts of Oman. UAE got off pretty lightly with just high waves, storm surge, a bit of wind and coastal flooding.

IF we have another storm on top of the record rains over Winter, I will definitely let you know!

5. Two links germane to Gonu...
First, I don't know you all have seen Sleepless is Muscat (a city in Oman)...some bad pictures there:

and second, we're talking about the energy ramifications of Gonu over at The Oil Drum...lots of information yet to come in on how much damage there was to Omani and Iranian infrastructure and/or energy shipping...

6. 28 people dead...! That's shocking with the adequate warning and quick
response by the authorities here:

28 killed in Gonu onslaught

By Daniel Bardsley, Staff Reporter and Sunil K. Vaidya, Bureau Chief

Dubai/Muscat: More than two dozen people were killed by Cyclone Gonu as the Gulf region tried to cope with the aftermath of widespread destruction.

Reuters, quoting a relief official, reported that 25 died in Oman as Gonu upturned cars, flooded neighbourhoods and snapped trees apart. Residents in Muscat yesterday began assessing the damaged caused by Gonu's heavy winds and severe flooding... http://gulfnews.com/nation/Environment/10130944.html
