OLBERMANN: Good evening from New York. Breaking news tonight, our fifth story on the Countdown that CIA Director Leon Panetta has told lawmakers that agency officials did indeed mislead Congress and did so since 2001, what would be the start roughly of the Bush administration. The CIA confirming to MSNBC and NBC News that director Panetta told lawmakers that Congress was not adequately informed about unspecified post-9/11 activity, classified activity. The CIA will not say what the briefing was about. Other officials say that it was not about waterboarding nor about interrogation practices.

Just caught up with this story on late rerun of Olbermann . . .

Pelosi redeemed . . . happily!

Panetta refuses to amend comments about briefings -- !!

Also -- and I wasn't paying sufficient attention here -- but it sounded lie at

least Pelosi -- Reid/??? -- wants to expand the number of people who are briefed

by the CIA. I think this used to be a much larger number and they succeeded in

bringing it down to just a few. It should be ALL of Congress.

At any rate, it sounded like OBAMA IS SAYING IF THEY SUCCEED IN PASSING LEGISLATION

LIKE THIS, HE WOULD VETO IT!!!!!

The one thing I noticed that truly irked me about Andrea Greenspan's interview is that she kept trying to frame it as a simple power or political fight between Pelosi (and her supporters) and the CIA. Garbage - this is about national security and not letting the CIA, DOD and the W.H. walk us into another unnecessary military engagement by lying to decisions makers. Andres tried over and over again to change the subject away from the behavior of the spooks. Andres can just bite me.

to find out just who those Briefers were and upon whose orders they were acting. Long term CIA career employees or Bush appointee political hacks?

It may be "the CIA", but individuals are still responsible for their actions.
