Summary: Cenk and Ana discuss the racist pool situation in Philadelphia. This story was written up in the among other places. Oh, and I'm amused by the unrecommend that came in less than a minute after posting (for a 2+ minute video). How about you WATCH the video before you unrecommend it?

Watch:

PS---Cenk finally caved in and really started using Twitter. Follow TYT on Twitter here: http://twitter.com/TheYoungTurks

1. I was just saying to myself ...
"Self, I wonder what do Ana and Cenk think about black kids getting kicked out of a pool?" And now I'll know.

3. I don't think race played much if any role at all.
Its because the pool was too full. The club has minority members. They made a mistake of allowing camps to come too though and didn't realize how overcrowded the pool would be. That would have been the case no matter what race the kids that came from camp were.

14. Did you notice THIS at that other thread?
Twelve days before the Creative Steps campers were shown the door, Wright said The Valley Club hosted four sixth-grade classes from Rydal East Elementary School in Abington. Only two of the nearly 80 kids were minorities. One of them was Wright's 11-year-old son, Marcus.

A wonderful time was had by all.

18. Is that you Rush?
With a name like mr_liberal I'm just a tad suspicious. Reich Wing actors alway deny racism right up until the lynching.

13. I doubt it.
They never said,"Oops the pool's to crowded, we're sorry. Could you wait a while or come back tomorrow. By then we'll have worked something out?" No they didn't. They basically said something that approximates, "Oops, there's been a mistake. You're the wrong kind of people. Here's you money back. Go swim some place else."

19. Unfortunately, in order to believe your version, one is forced to ignore multiple facts.
Edited on Wed Jul-15-09 12:23 AM by Political Heretic
First fact: as part of the contract the club knew exactly how many kids were coming before they ever invited them, as reported on MSNBC and CNN and probably elsewhere for all I know.

Second fact: the response by the club to the kids organization using the phrase "would change the complexion" was many things, including classist and elitist and racist.

Third fact: day one of the story the club had no "story" about worry over saftey. None. It took them a day and a half to get their PR story straight. And again, less that third fact sound too much like a "conspiracy theory" I remind you of the First Fact.

Watch the video before using unrecommend people. That doesn't seem very Democratic to me.

Other DUers have figured out that it wasn't racism at all!

11. The people who remain members of that club should be more than embarrassed, they
should be ostracized.
Then sued.

16. It is like this in many communities
all over the nation. Racism is hardly dead. Since the election it has found new vigor.

20. What do you think "private" clubs are all about?
This is a private pool. No matter where you go, that is at least an attempt to limit poor people. Public pools are for poor people. I've always argued that classism is much more prevalent than racism, race is just an outward indicator at this point in our history - minorities are much more likely to be poor.

What really happened is this camp called up, made a deal for all their campers, and the person on the other end didn't realize that it was a camp for poor or minority kids. All the other clientele had an expectation that the pool kept the "riff-raff" out, so when these kids actually showed up and that expectation was shattered, they got upset and started leaving/complaining.
