MSNBC The Rachel Maddow Show - 9 July 2001: Yesterday's interview with Harper's contributing editor and 'The Family' author, Jeff Sharlet.

C Street house leader's sermon urges committment to Christ by citing Nazi devotion to Hitler - a "kind of totalitarian idea of Christianity."

1. The research Forum here at DU regarding this nest
I saw that there's a section for Republican sex scandals. But this goes beyond even "sex scandals" to political dominance directed by C Street and gawd.

2. Do we now know why Bush said it would be easier if he was a dictator?
And why he supports dictators and monarchs more then democracies.

Think about all the right wing dictatorships over the years they supported.

It also is why they support CEO rule over America, because it is effectively a system of those with money rule.

Think back in your memory of their views on social programs, the deceptions, the tax programs, the disdain for government, the not following of laws, the executive bonuses, backroom deals, and systems to move money to the top, and the lack of thoughts on the validity of the Constitution. It makes more sense when you know the ideology some of them follow.

10. According to this article Bush was 'saved' by a cell of the family in TX
Kopp hiring proved Palin's fundamentalist street cred
http://www.adn.com/opinion/v-printer/story/531723.html

Palin's connection to what Jeff Sharlett has called "elite fundamentalism" is of interest now that she is an election and a heartbeat away from the presidency. Franklin Graham has been the keynote speaker for the Alaska Governor's Prayer Breakfast the past two years. According to their Web site, the organizers believe, "God directs the affairs of Man and is the ultimate authority over human events." The Alaska Governor's Prayer Breakfast is connected to the National Prayer Breakfast sponsored by The Fellowship Foundation, also known as "The Family," which espouses similar beliefs. The Family is headed by Doug Coe, one of the most influential evangelicals in Washington, D.C. Coe's group tends to operate behind the scenes organizing small cells attended by the power elite, mostly Republicans. George Bush was saved in such a cell while in Texas.

Elite fundamentalists believe, according to Sharlett, not only in religious determinism but that they are personally chosen by God to be in positions of power. By claiming divine legitimacy of their political power, elite fundamentalists relegate the opposition to being the devil's tool. They are making a frighteningly close return to the pre-enlightenment concept of rule by divine right, which our founding fathers rejected as anathema to democracy and established, instead, the separation of church and state lest decisions be made on the basis of good versus evil rather than wise versus unwise.

5. Did anyone else see the part of the show where they showed
a clip of one of the people in the group speaking about his belief in Christianity, mentioning Hitler and hate.

Note that occult also means hidden.

I also disagree with their interpretations of Christianity, I think most people do.

8. There are also some people in fraternal and social groups
Edited on Fri Jul-10-09 09:31 PM by RandomThoughts
That believe in the same ideas of Aristocracy, or more like Plutocracy.

Where people with money, or by blood lines, believe they should rule by divine right.

Where it creates real problems is when it becomes an excuse to break empathy and treat others badly, while claiming to be able to do anything to hold power.

And many leaders think average people are really bad. They think of all average Americans as the people on Jerry Springer show.
