have been on top of these corrupt, greedy corporatists from the beginning. If I understood this correctly, Warren Buffet helped bail them out but at a cost of billions in profit in return for his 5 billion, while the tax-payers' got a different deal. Paulson's reasoning is that you can't scare off potential investors in the middle of a crisis'. So, what does he call the American people? Aren't they investors also? Those investors made it clear they did not want to invest in failed institutions. His response was, according to some Representatives, to threaten members of Congress who voted against this deal.

He showed utter contempt for the American people. But then, he knows the American people are not represented anymore as both parties are owned by him and his Wall St. buddies. There really is no incentive for him to treat them with any kind of respect.

When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.

What happened last Fall with these bail-outs, the threats, the edicts that there be no accountability for the money they demanded, was nothing short of tyranny.

Paulson is probably annoyed that he has to waste his time putting on this show but I doubt he has a thing to worry about with both parties clearly in the pockets of those who created the crisis he speaks of.

The sheer arrogance of him to say that the American tax-payer should be grateful, that bad as things are now, they could have been worse.

Paulson's argument was utter bullshit - it's like saying Hitler was okay because, hey, he didn't kill *every* race, just the one.

25. Rumors were floating that Joe the Plumber...
...would run against her in the fall. I live in the 9th district and I can tell you, he would have a tough time. The Republicans here have a heck of a time finding anyone willing to run against her, as she usually takes between 60-70% of the vote. She is extremely well liked. Our family visited her office in the early 90's and she took 15 minutes out of her day to talk with us and our daughter. She's GREAT!

Ed Emery tried: he lost and was arrested for stealing scrap metal:

Info on Joe's run(?):

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/24/joe-the-plumber-open-to-2010-run/ - this was in Oct. 2008

http://www.joewurzelbacher2010.com/ - interestingly there have been no entries on this blog since November, 2008.

http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/27/jtp-congressmen-should-be-shot/ - of course, then there's THIS link from Feb. 27, 2009.

http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2009/07/even-god-thinks-joe-plumber-shouldnt-run-congress - apparently God told Joe NOT to run early this month.

24. I loved Paulson's response at the end.
I sat listening to a lot of the hearings yesterday. I was having to side with Paulson since the Congress people were so annoying with their questions. This was the funniest part of the whole hearing and I loved when Paulson told the lady that she probably didn't even think there was a crisis.

These Congressional hearings are always so pointless. A bunch of people in government bring in someone and then spend most of the time talking about themselves. Then when they ask a question, it's one that has always been answered 100 times before. Then at the end nothing happens as a result other than the people in government and go out and claim they yelled at someone.

26. THIS is what you get when industry cronies run gov't. agencies.
Paulson is a Goldman-Sachs hack who screwed us over in order to help all of his old pals over at Goldman. Do you think that after all his years at Goldman he didn't have alot of VERY CLOSE ties to that company?

When the feds hire industry execs to run Treasury, etc., it is EXACTLY like letting the fox guard the hen house. We're the hens, and Goldman enjoyed alot of free chicken dinners courtesy of Henry Paulson - AT OUR EXPENSE.

Another screwing of America for which we can all thank George W. Bush.

35. There was talk of her running for the U.S. Senate...
...awhile back but she decided to stay in the 9th district and use her considerable seniority there. Fortunately/unfortunately her name is not well-known state-wide, and there was fear that she couldn't win. This was some years ago.

She came from a working class family here in Toledo. No fancy bankrolling for her. She's very honest and hardworking for us here in the 9th district and is exemplary for a member of Congress. Many of the other members should emulate her and they'd have no fears about getting re-elected. At the last Republican-led reapportionment they really gerrymandered her district. I will be curious how it will shape up at the next reapportionment. They moved it east and took out a lot of her rural area west of Toledo and gave her a long drawn out district that borders Lake Erie and squiggles around in northern Ohio. It makes a much less compact district for her (and more travel time), and a district with many different issues than we have in the city:

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=OH&district=9

http://congress.org/congressorg/bio/id/467 - according to this she got 74% of the vote in the last election. That HAD to include a lot of Republicans in this Democratic majority district. In the upcoming Toledo mayoral election, the Repubs are not even fielding a candidate. There are Dems and "Independents" running, but nobody has the guts to call themselves a Republican. Last mayoral election was between two Democrats here. The fact that she draws in Republican votes from the rural farming community part of her district says a lot about her. People just LIKE her here.
