George Carlin on the Persian Gulf War and being a "free thinker". Just as appropriate today as it was then.

2. Recommending. Thanks for posting this. The references to Cheney
and Powell are spot on and funny, although a bit chilling to think they're still f***ing with us after all these years. MKJ

4. Great stuff. Carlin is still a great political satirist and observer.
A president using the slang of a 13 year old to describe his foreign policy.

9. Hmm... maybe that's why I'm such a peace-loving hippie.
I'm not huge or anything, just secure in the size and function of my own equipment.
Which is probably the same reason I'm perfectly happy to drive a beat-up old (but very fuel efficient) Accord. Nope, no compensation here folks. :)
:sarcasm: (no icon for 'flippant', but sarcasm is close enough. :) )

11. The more I play this, the more hysterical with laughter I become.
I reckon most of the youngsters in Iraq will pee their pants with laughter at it. Those staring beady eyes and his satirical gestures of faux machismo alone would have you in tears of laughter.

12. He manages to analyze an issue with great intellect and be profane
He manages to analyze an issue with great intellect and be profane at the same time also known as telling it like it is.

I love George. He is like the modern court jester. The only one that could tell the king he was f-ing up.

13. Really, it's all emphasis and satire. The original meanings of
many profanities could hardly be further from either the speaker or the hearers' minds.

As a Christian (albeit, in a church of sinners - as we try not to forget), I have to try to avoid oaths myself, but old habits die vey hard, while it's a great stress reliever. In fact I think that may well be why you Yanks are such a profane lot!!! No public health service, to speak of, etc., and a political set-up increasingly "red in tooth and claw".

It's been getting more and more stressful for the citizens here in the UK, of course, since the vandal, Thatcher, spearheaded the recrudescence of the far-right, in all its ugly brutality.

They had been discomfited as a result of their role in the lead-up to WWII, and seemed to have made an unspoken pact with Attlee's Socialist government, which the people at large had demanded after the war, on condition that they let them off the hook for their earlier sponsorship of Mussolini's and Hitler's corporatism, and allowed them to posture as the heroic saviour's of the world - together with the "other ranks".

Never mind the 26 million Russians who broke the back of the German army and the American military and American money! I think cable has done a lot to disabuse a historically brainwashed British people of such a misunderstanding. Those factors, the English Channel and the fact that Hitler was a moron were largely our salvation.

However, unlike their mainland European counterparts, whose populations had felt the sting and shame of the Nazi occupation, our far-right have remained unshriven. So, it's no coincidence that Germany and France, Western Europe, as a whole, have not been such enthusiastic fans of naked capitalism, red in tooth and claw - despite the enormous pressures that its "Dimmest and Worst" have exerted on them to fall in the with the US and the UK in all their sorry degradation. Their people won't stand for it. Unfortunately, we British have become irredeemably corrupted. Many of the people given a "leg up" by the welfare state have become "beggars on horseback", riding straight to hell. Indeed, ironically, it may well be that a remaining rump of decent Christian toffs will take over the Tory party again and be its salvation, or contribute heavily to it - the types, who quit in disgust under Thatcher.

Yes, Carlin is both brilliant and brilliantly funny, isn't he. You're very lucky to have such people. Except that you are a very politically motivated people, as a whole.
