1. Is there anyone here who can clarify |

whether on this and other occasions they are actually saying "death to" or "down with"

2. From what I was told by other Iranians I have talked to... |
|
The actually translation is "Death to..." but the meaning is more like us saying "Down with..."
Like I said that is what I was told...Hope that helps.

3. The looming question in mind and... |
|
The minds of the Iranian People is whether Obama & the West will recognize the Ahmadinejad Government? I was 110% behind Obama for his willingness to try and talk as America has never done with Iran since 1979...However, if Obama goes forward with his plan to talk now then it will take the air out of the sails of the protestors.
Any opinions?

there was an Iranian journalist being interviewed on BBC News a few weeks back and she tried to explain, as an aside, that something is being lost in translation in terms of meaning and we should take the meaning to be "down with"
edit - sorry had meant to thank you.

7. I think because China and Russia |
|
are major oil customers and are more concerned with getting their oil than with what happens to the Iranian people.

9. The reason the Iranian People are so mad at Russia & China... |
|

Those two governments immediately accepted the election results & Ahmadinejad's Government...Of course, both those governments fear similar revolts in their countries, especially China! That, and they have strong economic ties with Iran.
Russia & China really control what Iran & North Korea do and cannot do...The West is powerless over North Korea and they hold a little more power over Iran, especially Europe, if they were to ever decide to use it. But China & Russia could make either country conform to whatever it was they wanted them to do.
The world is a scary place right now! Obama has his hands FULL! The Cheney/Bush foreign policy left the world in a wreck...Much like they left our country!
